Canadian Tire ammo quality

As long as people buy from Walmart and CT, the prices will be higher at the small gun shops.

When there are no more local gun shops and the big chain stores deem it politically incorrect to sell ammunition, you will lose your supply.

Silly idea, isn't it?

Wait a minute...

Thats what happened twice now since bill C68

I live in a community that supports our local gun shops. We don't care what these big businesses do.

We choose to spent the extra 50 cents on a box of ammo , keep our local gun shops, and deal with qualified staff.

The best price in my town is never at Walmart or CT.

My local store fights gun control legislation. Your CT makes donations to the Liberal Party of Canada.

When your town has no ammunition, guns, or vendors, remember that you saved 50 cents...

and shipping costs suck....

Your choices killed the local store. You suck.

Lot's of towns don't have guns stores so you are right to support the ones you have in your town actually Edmonton is almost a city isn't it? :)

from bullets not penetrating deer and hand j*** on hunting trips
this site has had its moments this week.
thanks for the entertainment

just need mr cwa back again

Back in the day, (about 40 yrs ago) CT sold their own brand of ammo, and it was definitely under powered. I was about 12, and I used to hunt bunnies on our farm every night in the fall and winter after school (and sometimes instead of school). I preferred it because it was cheap and didn't turn the bunnies into hamburger. I saved the dominion shells for ducks and geese. But brand name shell were and still are straight from the original manufacturers warehouse

This story goes with my barber's story that his 308 wouldn't kill deer when he hit them perfectly so he started to carry a 300 mag. Funnt thing was it didn't work either. Next 458 I guess.

Haha, I actually have a box of old "Canadian Tire" branded shotgun shells sitting on the shelf.

Care to tell us more? I've never had a problem with Winchester ammo. Although I did just buy a couple boxes of Imperial shotshells from CT to try out. Good to see Canadian made shotshells available in quantity at CT stores. Hope it shoots good!

Winchester rimfire ammo is notoriously bad, lots of duds.
Their shotshells and centerfire cartridges seem fine, but I avoid their .22 bulk boxes (with the exception of Dynapoints, those rock)

Whinny rimfire has worked good for me. The only recent problem I've had with rimfire rounds was with the Remington Thunderbolts. Huge FPS variations and the odd dud. I have some M22's to try out yet that I bought at CT.

My CT store in town is getting better and better with it's stock of ammo and they will be getting firearms in a month or 2. Really good to see CT as the go to place for guns and ammo again, it's been a while.

I shoot Winchester 555 pack .22LR all the time, and I'm having difficulty recalling the last dud I got. Maybe it's a cartridge/gun combination problem?

A few weeks ago I chronographed Win 555 pack ($0.04/round) and the CCI Velocitors ($0.14/round) out of my Savage Mark II.
The el-cheapo 555 pack rounds were very consistent, while the Velocitors were #1: not living up to the advertised velocities, and #2: extremely inconsistent. Highest velocity was 1380 fps, while I got quite a few that were even sub 1300 fps, but they were pretty evenly sprinkled between those two numbers.

Win 555 pack was at least as accurate (usually better) with regards to horizontal dispersion, and all were within about 20 fps of each other, making it more accurate in vertical dispersion.

Just wanted to put my experience, with my rifle out there.

EDIT:
And in regards to the "CT Ammo is lower quality" statement... uhhh... no.

If there's a box that says "Winchester" on it with a certain product number, that's what it is, period. It doesn't matter who is selling it.

People need to remember to look at the product number though, there's all different kinds of ammo lines, bullet weights, bonded vs. non, FMJ vs. expanding, nickel case vs. brass that may affect the quality vs. price ratio.

The internet killed the local gun store, hard to gouge the informed consumer.

Canadian tire leans on manufacturers all the time to acquire lower priced product lines..and companies sell out their reputations to accommodate..but doesn't sound like it in this case.

Products will usually be exclusive to CT, but close enough to the real thing that CT appears to sell the same item as competitors less...

Can you imagine the grief involved in re-setting their production line to produce 'cheaper' ammo??
I would doubt it Very much!
(Years ago a bud was touring the AC Delco plant producing oil filters, for some reason.
At one point sirens went off and the production line stopped.
A minute later it started up again, but the filters now had a Can.Tire label on them.Nothing else had changed)
Even if Win. or whoever did produce a store labeled brand, the only difference would be the box, IMO.
