Just getting an addition to our Crappy tire in my area. Going to a Hunting "Proshop". Not even exactly sure what this will bring other than a few more products and a few more aisles.. There is a whole aisle of gun racks in place with nothing on them yet though.. Does anyone have one around them that could tell me what I should expect to see? Brands-products-etc...

A Canadian Tire in St. Thomas is also doing the same thing... (not sure if thats the one you're talking about) but ya I have no idea either. Should be interesting.

Few Canadian Tires out West here have added gun section, but don't ever expect the staff to have a damn clue about anything.

Expect minimum wage performance from people who have never handled or seen a gun in person other then putting it on the shelf.

Has been my experience in 2 Can-Tire's out here so far.

The Canadian tire proshop is an expansion of the hunting and shooting sections. The most notable change is the stocking of firearms and accessories. Selection is individual from store to store and mostly determined by the management. Since this is not through head office no advertising can be through national flyers or the website. It should be staffed by pal holders and wherever possible they hired knowledgable staff instead of giving anyone who works there access to the firearms. Their prices are competitive but I haven't seen much progress in reloading and archery in the stores I have dealt with.

I've seen marlin and savage mostly. I think some sks's as well. Shotguns as well. It's nice to see firearms back in the stores. Wish wal-mart would bring guns up at the US prices.

Stop. Laughing that hard hurts my ribs.
You'll never see U.S. prices in any shop, selling anything, here.
Wally World Canada is very much anti-firearm ownership. Mind you, with all the BS a retailer(and the employees don't get paid enough to take PAL courses) has to do to sell anything firearm related, it's not surprising.

Ive got three of these within 20 minutes of me. They carry maybe 2 dozen firearms. Savage Axis, Ruger Americans, 10-22, Rem 870s, Mossberg 500s, Marlins, Savage rimfires. Nothing real high end but the standard working guns which are popular today. Two of them have SKSs. Decent ammo selection. Not much in the way of shooting accessories, just the basics. More in the way of hunting accessories.

Exactly. They know their market, consumer and pricepoint. They aren't looking to compete with Cabelas or their gun library.

I`m hoping the C-Tire close to my home is doing the same ,as they have cleared a whole aisle, which seems to be for hunting and hopefully rifles.

I was at another store location where they do have rifles ,including some militaria type such as a Mosin and a few others ,but the several Ruskie SKSs are what caught my eye.Problem being ,none of the punks had a PAL ,so I was not to check them out........pity ,I was going to buy one for a project gun.

As mentioned ,it`s fine to have a rifle section ,now to find a staff member with a PAL and a key to the goodies.

I shall have to take a run down to my local store and see if they decided to stock rifles. One thing I do notice ,all the stores I`ve been to ,always have plenty of .303 Brit.

Theres nothing wrong with that. They know their market and stick to it.

Not knocking their selection, if you are looking for a higher quality rifle you will not find it at CT. Pricepoint firearms galore, that's fine, but when you are looking fir a higher grade rifle and there is only three dealers around that carry the same selection at about same price, you are stuck.

Only gripe I have with my local CT is their abundance of "Thin Skinned" ammo in this area that hunting mainly consist of Moose.

CT will also special order any rifle they can acquire. They deal through North Sylva and have access to their entire catalog. (The special order of tactical or black NRs may vary between locations)

Canadian Tire Pro Shop = Oxymoron

I can empathize with that. Exception being one CT store in town, where on the day I walked in they had SKS, Mosin and some other goodies besides the usual hunting fare. Also 303Br for a competitive price. And the young fellow I spoke with was quite knowledgeable. A really pleasant experience for a change.

There are 2 CT pro shops local to me, they have lots of stock (one has over 800 guns) and tones of ammo. They are subject to the same supply issues as every other retailer in Canada but both try really hard to keep stock and will special order anything they can get. They also try to keep their prices as competitive as they can.

Most of the guys in my local store are knowledgeable at least when it comes to hunting.

The manager of one store has been in contact with our range about hosting sponsored days and bringing out demo guns for people to try.
