Canadian Tire Sale.......

Couple years ago managed to score some Federal steel 3.5" BB's in Cdn Tire...Had it red-tag marked at $4.99 a box on the bottom shelf, and directly above it was the same stuff (even the same lot number!) marked at $42.99 a box.

Had the guy check the price, came up as $4.99 a box...He looked at it closer, said there must have been a price marker mistake. Asked him how that worked, and he said that he as soon as I left he was going to pull all 9 mis-marked boxes and change them to the $42.99....Told him I'd save him the trouble of peeling off the stickers......grin

And I didn't even have a 3.5" chambered shotgun at the time...But at what I saved on shells it made it worth buying one.......grin

Year later in the same Cdn Tire (Cranbrook) I found two Berkley Lightning Rods marked as Berkley Power Bait for $6.99 instead of the actual price of $129.99 each.....I miss shopping at that store....

Not likely, the stores are individually owned and it's entirely up to the owner or general manager if they want to carry firearms
 
Just like supermarkets Canadian tire raises the price, then puts on a "sale" price that is still more expensive than the old price.

The old price for 525 rounds of the Federal .22LR was $13.99, now they're on "sale" for $20.99 and the regular price sticker underneath now says $21.99:rolleyes:

If I hadn't have stocked up on ammo three years ago before the price hikes I would be seeing red.
 
i got a bunch at are local ctc as well thy told me thy are nolonger going to carry fedarel ammo .i got 16g and 10 ammo for a song .it was a red tag sale but it is long over here DUTCH

Supermarkets and Canadian Tire buy from suppliers, then distribute to their retail locations. Manufacturer's input prices increase, suppliers costs increase so they increase the price of the product they sell to the corporations to and in turn retail prices rise. It is NOT solely the end retail's main objective to increase their retail prices by 75% to make gross profits, retail markups generally remain the same, in CT's case ammo is marked up only 18-20% (depending on which type of ammo) and the retail mark up has not changed from 20% for almost 10 years. I know this for a fact. So in turn, CT retail stores take a loss on profit and then people complain that they just "raise their prices, then put them on "sale"..." which is a very unfair judgement since they are taking a loss and trying to help out us shooters with our costs.
 
Must of been a mistake, my dad went into crappie tire a couple months ago and asked the guy how much a brick of 22 shell were and the guy said 2.99, The price was actually for 50 of course, so the guy wrote 2.99 on the brick, so my dad bought the whole works.

Agreed - there have been a number of other posts about this.

Staff don't understand that there are small boxes inside the larger one.

Out of curiosity due to this thread, I talked to my friend who's a manager at a local Canadian Tire and while the centerfire rounds are marked up 17-20% the rimfire prices are as follows:

Federal 22LR box of 525 = CT purchases for $19.65 and sells retail for $21.99, results in a markup of 10.64%

Winchester 22LR box of 525 = CT purchases for $19.40 and sells retail for $20.99 resulting in a markup of 7.57%

In a retail environment, it's generally regarded that a markup of 25% is the minimum amount to cover the costs of a retail venture. This may explain why some CT's are getting out of the ammo business, because it is below the minimum profit-turning mark-up.

I don't really see the need to blame the retailers for prices, and then be upset that they lower the price by $1 and take less profit as a result.
