I have 2 pairs... they are both junk.. one pair is consistently .0035 under, and one is .002 under. I have calibration standards for my micrometer, and I have a large number of bullets to measure. plus one pair does not have the same error from inside to outside.. .. cheap no good, good no cheap.

Mitutoyo are lovely instruments ... as are Starrett. Both are lifetime investments.

I have a set of Capri tools platinum Calipers I got from amazon for like 70$. They were rated highly by several hundred people so I gave them a shot. I have to say I’ve been happy with the purchase as they are very accurate and they do not need to be constantly zeroed like some others less expensive calipers.

I am quite certain we are talking about digital calipers. Vernier calipers are a different animal.
The two CTC digital calipers I have are quite serviceable and accurate.
We need to keep things in perspective. The CTC calipers can be purchased on sale for $12.00. They do not compare to Mitutoyo and other higher end calipers, but they are the best $12.00 calipers I have found.

I have CT digital calipers and they are reliable & consistent... I think they cost $15 on sale too... can't beat that. I do have a high end micrometer that I use to verify the calipers but it only measures to 1-2" (and is too time consuming for reloading)

I've been using the Canadian Tire digital calipers for a couple years and only have an issue when the battery is dying.
For critical things I've checked them against a quality micrometer and never seen a discrepancy.
Also know a machinist who had and still has some high end calipers. They stay in the drawer for double checking high precision work but aren't used on a daily basis anymore. He is happy with the Canadian Tire ones and has them all over the shop. Great for most work and no tears shed if it hits the concrete floor.

I have Mitutoyo and CTC calipers, both of mine read accurately. The Mitutoyo's are digital, and the CTC ones are an older dial version.
Princess Auto has some that they put on sale every couple of months, and my freind says that his are good also when compared to another brand.

I only use my CT digital caliper occasionally, and they work for what I ask of them. I remove the battery when I am done the job. Takes all of three seconds.

I don't think I have ever seen actual vernier calipers at Canadian Tire; I can't imagine that they are a big seller nowadays compared to dial or digital. Personally, I can read a vernier scale, but either a dial or digital indicator is much quicker and easier to read without very bright light.

I recently bought a Princess Auto digital caliper that works well so far. If price were no object, I would absolutely go with Starrett or Mitutoyo, but the cheap ones are good enough for my budget and my use. Besides that, they all pretty much break the same if you accidentally drop one.
