Canadian Value and availability for Type 14 8 mm Nambu Japanese pistol

They really aren't that available in Canada. The vast majority of them made it into the States and stayed there. Looking online you can find a fantastic site set up by a Canadian collector of Japanese Nambus, and some of her numbers are interesting (http://members.shaw.ca/tju/jhg.htm). "November, 2006 (the latest available) finds that there are 178 Type 14s, 50 Type 94s, 27 Type 26s, 5 Papas, 4 Babys and one Grandpa ... the individual records on each of these and attributing them to their most likely type leads to these revised figures: 193 Type 14s (30 of them mine), 50 Type 94s (8 of them mine), 30 Type 26s (5 of them mine), 5 Papas (3 of them mine), 4 Babys (2 of them mine), one Grandpa (not mine—yet!) and one post-war New Nambu M57A (not mine), a total of 284 specimens".
Basically as of 2006 she figures there is a total of 193 Type 14 Nambus in Canada (and I can't see the number increasing that much since then). So realistically your looking at less than 200 pistols in Canada, likely all in the hands of people who enjoy keeping them. I can't ever recall seeing a Type 14 Nambu for sale in country, however I have seen one or two Type 26 revolvers for sale (likely just less interesting to most people or the fact the ammo is non-existant). Your best bet is honestly to try and import one if it is what you really desire. Hope this helps.

One of the interesting sidelights to the "Baby" Nambu story is that Bill Ruger had two in his personal collection. He copied the "Baby" concept, making two more, although both were in .22 rather than 7mm. Ruger considered his "Baby" Nambus too concealable and, before getting into the casting business, too expensive to produce by conventional methods. Nevertheless, a picture of Ruger's prototype "Baby" appears on page 48 of Wilson's Ruger & His Guns.
