It seems that we won't be seeing more that 50 Scar16s rifles in Canada anytime soon as FN U.S.A. will not be shipping anymore than the original order...
I talked to Tim at Questar today and he confirmed my worst fears...
If you are one of the lucky ones to be on the list of 50 and by blind chance don't want your Scar, by all means PM me and I'm sure we can work out a reasonable arrangement to benefit both parties...
My intention here was not to start a thread to propagate rumours of any sort.
I did in fact talk to a Questar rep and i made a simple typo of his name...Tom in fact was the person i spoke with and the conversation i had with him was very clear... i asked him to clarify the information on the website about the issues that they were dealing with in regards to importing of the Scar16s rifle to Canada, and he was quite direct with his answer. He stated that Questar WILL NOT be taking any more orders on the Scar16s rifles and they will only be able to import 50 at the very most. I then asked Tom if there was any chance that there would be future exports of the Scar16s after the original 50, and he clearly stated that it WAS HIGHLY UNLIKLEY THAT WE WILL SEE ANY SCAR16S RIFLES FOR A VERY VERY LONG TIME. Now if you read the original post there was no deliberate mis-information on my part, and based on the conversation with Tom and the previous dealings i have had with Questar i did not question the validity of his statement. If there was any mistake on my behalf it was that i simply trusted the word of the Questar rep to be good info, and perhaps that was an incorrect assumption. Perhaps next time i will ask Mark for the interpretation of the information he posted on his website and then await a nebulus answer of some sort about how it can't be confirmed or denied.
The burning questions i do have for Mark is that based on the statement on your site (which i pasted below) is, if I'm so off base about the post i wrote then why was this posted on the Questar site? (QUOTE: "We've also been told (specifically) that the SCAR is considered a "military type firearm" and new export permits for this gun will NOT be approved."END QUOTE) and also why did you post this? (QUOTE "This will mean that existing inventories on many of these items will not be replenished so "get em while they last" is obviously something to keep in mind."END QUOTE) Is the latter just a marketing ploy to sell firearms and accesories faster by promoting a panic buy?
Thanks for throwing a good long time customer under the bus Mark...
Here is whats posted on the Questar site:
Over the past few weeks we've had on-going discussions with US State Department and I'm sorry to report that they are once again tightening export restrictions on a number of firearms and accessories. According to State Department there were a number of export permits approved this past year that "slipped through the cracks" and were NOT indicative of an intentional change in "Export Policy". New permits are once again being restricted in a similar way to what was happening a year or two ago.
Here are a few examples of what the new Export Permits can NOT contain:
•Firearms chambering 5.56NATO or 7.62NATO ammunition
•Rifle Barrels under 16"
•Flash Hiders/Suppressors
•Folding, collapsing or telesoping stocks
We've also been told (specifically) that the SCAR is considered a "military type firearm" and new export permits for this gun will NOT be approved.
This will mean that existing inventories on many of these items will not be replenished so "get em while they last" is obviously something to keep in mind. We will keep you informed as we get more info but we expect to see shortages again on many of the most popular AR stuff due to these renewed restrictions.
