Candle Stove / Finnish Candle / Swedish Torch

I learned of these in an off-road magazine some time ago, but didn't get around to doing it until now.
It was a small side note in an article about a winter trail run in BC, showing how they cooked their lunch.
The author described using green pine and white gas, and that's pretty much all I remember about it.

Google shows quite a few interesting methods.
 
Ray Mears tries one out in a video, used birch and natural tinder to get going. He used quarters, by moving pieces in or out it looked like you could allow more or less air flow. Haven't tried yet my self. Looks like fun.
