I have a friend who's not computer savvy and he asked me to help with evaluation and selling of following antique items.

1. Pistol (what is the correct name of such type of pistols?). Seems to be in working condition. Serialized. F.Reuthe's Patent 1857.

Any help with evaluating will be appreciated.

"bore condition" is not the only factor on these unusual pieces. They have a collector following regardless.

I suggest somebody could give a ballpark based on the info from the OP.

To refine the estimate, details regarding:

- how tight the action is
- estimate of overall finish remaining (if any, looks like patina)
- if there is any substantial pitting anywhere
- condition of the nipples (ie are they frozen in place and unlikely to be removed without damage)
- caliber
- any additional info on the makers' marks.

Nice examples, you don't see them every day.

The first item you have is not a pistol but a trap gun. It is missing the part that holds the bait. I have had a couple of these over the years and usually sell for around $1000.00 to $1200.00 when complete. Some had handles like yours and some were with out.

The second item the cane gun is an English made and would be retailed valued at around $1000.00 in the condition it is in.

The cane guns which I have seen sell went for serious money.
Road King beat me to the Julia reference.

Does the cane gun have the tampion? [Little plug that goes in the muzzle to protect it when walking]. Affects the value if it is missing. I assume it is a smooth bore. Many of them were made in 12mm, can you tell if that measurement is close in your gun.

Apparently the owner backed up and is very reluctant to sell both of those items. Sorry for troubles and thank you very much for informative thread, I've learned something new for me.
