Canik in Canada... is there a point?

I see a used one in the EE for $650. I was under the impression it was a great budget gun. Something like $350 usd.

At $650, it seems to me that there are much better options. You can pick a Walther PPQ up for that! And isn't that what the Canik is? A PPQ rip off? Or you could get a CZ75, Glock, ... two Norinco np34's ;) you get my drift.

I may be talking out arse here, as I really dont know a lot about the Canik. So please be gentle if I'm missing something.

And isn't there some sort of moral reason to not support Turkey right now? Was it the Kurds they did something to?

Once again, arse talking... but please explain why one would buy a Canik over another pistol.

Cheers

Because for $550 for the range kit it is an awesome deal on an excellent handgun, try one out, they are a really nice pistol. People have been, and will continue to buy Turkish products as long as they are available, decent quality at a good price :)

I have a TP9SA in FDE. I bought it from IRG. Great deal, plus I ordered 2 extra mags. It comes with a, case, cleaning kit + 2 piece holster and 2 mags if I am not mistaken. Great gun, great trigger. These would be cheaper if our currency valuation wasn't hovering around 75 cents USD.

I came to the same conclusion. Yes I have shot one. Decent pistol. I recall it being a copy of the Walther P99 which is the predecessor to the PPQ. It was a nice handgun. But I would gladly pay more for the PPQ which I greatly preferred. What was a budget, modified clone with some additions and of decent quality has crept up in price. To the point where I reached the same conclusion as you.

Yeah, I got a used (900 rds) 5" PPQ M2 with 3 mags and Meprolight Night Sights for $750. That's only $100 more than the Canik on the EE right now.

Even though our dollar is at 75 cents, a $350 pistol shouldn't be $550+

Yeah, this is my second PPQ... I am definitely a fan.

I really enjoy my TP9SA, I bought it from I Run Gun US site, cost me under 450.00 Canadian when I bought it. ( dollar was around .84 US and gun sold for 349.00usd)

But the seller of said 650.00 TP9SA also has 2 extra mags and upgraded sights on his gun (180 for sight upgrade and 90.00 for the two extra mags)
So yea, I can see why he's asking 650.00, I personally would not have spent that kind of money on sights for this gun but, to each his own.

and a holster with the package, concluding that there is no point to this thread if that gun at $650 with all the options/upgrades was the reference to it.

he can ask what he wants and you can offer what you want..,

Since you asked. They're currently going full on Shari law dictatorship. Jailing journalists, judges, etc who oppose their leader after a failed coup. They've gone from being a beacon of hope for democracy in the middle east to going down the path of being just another cesspool. Oh, and they're a NATO member who is buddying up with the Russians. The same Russians threatening to invade other NATO members.

Well I might as well chime in....as it's my pistol up for grabs..
Firstly...they seem to be running 550$ out the door....and yes I have two extra mags bnib...and yes I had the sight upgraded...the factory sights are in my humble opinion, the pistols only weak point...
If you havn't handled or shot one, you will not understand the quality of the firearm...nothing on it is cheap, I have an ever changing collection of pistols, from Sti and Hk to Cz and sig...it stands up very well against them all...personally I find the trigger better than the ppq...way better than my Glock and just better than my sig...it's just my humble opinion...and I'm the one taking the loss...I do love naysayers on here dissing products that in some cases they have probably never held or shot...enjoy the rest of your day...

Having owned 40 or so pistols and handled all the comparables I think The Canik is the best polymer striker fired out there dollar for dollar, I'd pay $1000 for one if the comparison is say HK or any other maker. I love mine. I would take one over any other polymer striker fired gun.

Hey man, I don't think anyone has dissed the Canik yet. All that has been discussed is if it is still worth it at the current price point in Canada. Try not to take it personally man, it's just a gun.

Better trigger than the PPQ? I gotta try this pistol! Every single side by side comparison evolving the PPQ has the Walther coming out on top for trigger.

Hey chromearty,
I hear you...promise I'm not taking it personally...it's funny ..I read a lot of reviews out of the states before I bought..I'm think just about everyone was positive...maybe it's just me...the Walther trigger was good...even for a striker..or maybe I scored the only fab trigger out there...somehow I don't think so...if you were any nearer I'd happily give you range time..I noticed that the newly upgraded ruger is very similar...Walther had a great design...just like Cz spawned some very fine clones.

That's quite an endorsement. I have read good things about them. I will keep an eye out at the range for one and see if I can score some time with it.

That's mighty kind man!!

There are some mighty fine endorsements of this pistol even at twice the price. Even here in this thread!

I am now very interested in trying one! If I had the cash, I'd pick yours up!

I've fired both. The PPQ trigger is better. More importantly the PPQ is more accurate. The Canik is a decent pistol. When it first arrived the price point for the quality was fantastic. But these days if you can grab a PPQ at on par dollar pricing from before the dollar sucked, then you are further ahead. I own a number of pistols as well and the PPQ was the one I decided to get. The Canik is a copy of the P99, which doesn't stack up to the PPQ. In reality I would compare the Canik more to the M&P9. You can get the M&P9 range kit for $670. I would still pick the M&P9 over the Canik. Although the trigger on the M&P9 takes a lot of rounds to smooth out and out of the box isn't very good. The PPQ is superior to both. Both in trigger and accuracy.

The PPQ compares well against the new HK SPF9 and the Sig P350.

I have only shot a few pistols so take my opinion for what it's worth. I bought the tp9sa this year for 549 plus tax. This pistol is inexpensive, not cheap. I actually can't believe more people don't own this pistol based on quality and price. I won't go on, just check the reviews from many in the know. It has garnered a lot of praise. TS, please shoot one if you get a chance and report back to us.

Sorry epoxy7... I just don't get the comparison with the M&p...fit and feel is way better on the Canik...but I also know we all have our own opinions and favourites...guess I proved I wouldn't pick the M&p...but then lots of folks really rate HK...so far I've had three, havn't kept one of them...I want to feel the love ...just don't.
