Sooooo, these look pretty awesome... and long enough to be Canada friendly!

I realize they were JUST released in the US, so it may be a fair wait, but does anyone know where/when they may be available up north?

They do seem to be making a good product right now...the TP9SA is super accurate..not sure I'd want a smaller frame...can't carry, don't get the point....I'm sure it will be very nicely built...more folks should try one..

I have a Canik as well. After watching the video, I think the Elite would be a great addition to the stable. I actually like a more compact size when it comes to my pistols, so for me, the smaller package is very attractive.

I very much agree, panders to my little weak child hands.

Yes, Canadian IDPA barrel regs make it a non viable choice. I shoot the TP9SA with adjustable sights for IDPA and love it. I tried it out once for IPSC and it was a nightmare.
This newer Canik looks awesome, comparable to the G19 only superior.

Yup, X2 on why the TP9-SA was an issue for IPSC?

I'm new to pistols and I was thinking this would be a great first timer and possibly allow me to get into shooting comp sports later on. I think I read that IPSC had it in their not approved list for production class.

right the TP9V2 is on the IPSC list but isn't it's barrel length too short making it a prohib? Maybe I'm not interpreting the can. regs right - I'm still at the begining of my learning curve on this stuff.

The barrel won't be the issue if the proposed 2017 rule change on the issue goes through. In which case, CCP division barrel length goes to 4.375" (111.125mm) maximum. It is the other dimensions of the gun that pose a problem. A smidge too wide, for example.

My IPSC experience with the gun was that it would not run with the speed of IPSC. It was a nightmare as in I placed nearly dead last, which is not where I would have placed if I had gone with my Tangfo. Of 6 stages I had the gun run properly once and was top on that stage. Of the other 5 stages it had a ton of jamming issues and I bombed all of them.
The following week I did an IDPA match with the same gun, ammo, etc and came in 2nd with zero issues. I think the speed of IPSC was too much for the gun. Maybe another factor caused my issues but most people i'd imagine don't run their Caniks lightning fast with mag changes.

For me an all metal gun for IPSC and a polymer for IDPA makes the most sense.

Yes, the TP9V2 and the original TP9 (not the SA, if I'm not mistaken) are both prohibs because of barrel length. The SA and the SF are both longer.

EDIT: Going to add some actual data because my post was pretty vague;

The original TP9 and the TP9 V2 which are both the double/single action versions have 4.07" (103.5mm) barrels making them prohib because they don't meet the magical mystery number of >105mm. If you look at pictures you can see the slide is noticeably shorter than the SA.

The TP9SA and the TP9SF have 4.46" (113.5mm) barrels so they are in Canuck Grandma's good books, although I don't even know if I've ever seen the SF model in Canada for sale.

The TP9SF Elite is strutting around wearing a 4.19" barrel which comes to a sweet sweet 106mm. Also: I want one. :cool:

What class did you run the tp9sa in? I am still in the learning stage when in comes to ipsc and idpa. From what I've read it must have been the open class because it's not approved for production?
