Cannot dissassemble magtube from receiver

Hi,
I just bought a Charles Daly 601 shotgun and I did a complete dissassembly to clean it properly. For the life of me though, I could not unscrew the magtube from the receiver. I tried degreasing it first (because trying to hold onto an oiled up cylinder is pretty hard). Either by hand or with vise-grips (with a cloth to protect the metal), it would not buldge. I didn't want to overtighten and deform the magtube though, so I didn't use all my force.

Any tips or tricks to get it done?

Thanks!
David

Is it meant to come apart? Why are you taking it off? I’ve never seen a shotgun that required the mag tube be removed for a cleaning.

OP - You must realize that most damage done to firearms is by owners who attempt to dis-assemble them. A superficial clean, and lube of critical areas is all that is needed. In your case, this gun is a rather inexpensive Turkish gun, and I would be more concerned about its basic functionality , ie shoot it ASAP to verify function.

Unless you need to replace the magazine tube, leave it alone... you are just asking for trouble... it certainly does not need to be removed to clean the gun.

Well, I'm glad I consulted fellow nutz before doing anything more forceful.

I saw a video online of someone that removed it when cleaning, I thought it had to be done.

It explains why it wouldn't buldge!

Done and done. Never messing with it again.

@cosmic: Was supposed to do just that last Sunday, but unfortunately, life got in the way. Hoping to be able to go rabbit hunting next week-end with it!

As mentioned unless really needed don’t remove it.

On Benelli and clones that I worked on they are threaded. I used a barrel vise with tight fitting wood blocks and rosin. Heat up with a torch and slowly work it loose.
