Canoe-access riverbottom bow buck - a 6 year project

I loved your story. The thing I like about those types of stories is they come from the 'average-guy' perspective. Everything from the mistakes, the doubts, the challenges and risks, the success and knowing it was all worth the effort. No sponsor bs, high fives and other crap you see on some of those hunting shows. And like you said maybe it's not a trophy for some guys but it is to you and those great pics will immortalize that adventure for you. Congratulations

Thanks all for your comments. I enjoyed writing it so I'm glad you all enjoyed reading it! I've cleaned up the rack and letting it dry out now. My plan is a modest rack mount on a classic wooden 'shield' with room for a 5x7 framed photo below. I've also got my old dog's collar-tag, which I'll put on there somewhere to acknowledge her helping me find it back in 2010.

Way cool, and some fantastic photos there. Been considering the same canoe, 33lbs and tough being Royalex, you seem to like it.
Indeed Ardent - that little Pack is one of my favourites. There is no centre yoke so you need to use a pair of paddles lashed in or just carry it on your shoulder like a kayak if short distance. Sadly, Royalex is no longer made by DuPont so Old Town got out of production of these a number of years ago. In the tannic granite-strewn lakes of Nova Scotia they are ideal, and as a result they're as rare as hen's teeth around here. Some companies are working on Royalex replacement - one called T-formex (Esquif canoes) and one called TuffStuff (Novacraft). I have a T-formex Heron from Esquif that is a passable replacement it seems, but the Tuffstuff from NovaCraft is quite different (stiffer and more like an epoxied glass product). It's be nice if Old Town got back into the game somehow though - I loved their product line.
Cheers,
-Dave
