CANSOF IUR Clone thread

I’m sure some the JTF2\CSOR ops have the option of going the Trijicon Acog route if a preference..

Heck, we had a few guys ACOGs on my tours. (Personal purchases of course).

I may be interested in selling my Cansof clone if anyone is interested. I will sell it for what I put into it minus my time and energy.

I also have 4 AE suppressor collars for sale at 50.00 each.

When I renew my membership I'll post pics.

I love that clone - how much? are you selling with or without accessories?
PM me, or let me know when you get the EE ad up!

The SAS IUR does not have a 10.5" barrel despite what it's advertised. It's exact 10 1/8" in length.

The piece I had made isn't a collar in the way that Hilo's is on the 11.6" barrel. The proper clone correct collar slips over top of the 11.6" barrel and is held in place by the vortex flash hider (thanks Hilo).
The collar adapter extender I had replicated only works with the 10" SAS barrel. My undertanding was that using the factory AE adapter extender, would yield the exact same result and function with the Ops INC suppressor as an 11.6" barrel with the used collar.
When I had my adapter extender replicated, I had them reduce the backset from 1/2" to 1/8" to account for the shorter barrel.
When you measure my 10" SAS barrel with the custom extender, it measures out to 11.6" give or take.

The easiest way to get what I'll call a "close enough" clone is to use my extender with the factory 10" barrel SAS upper. Using a different 10.5" barrel and my extender would yield a 12" barrel and a gap too large between the end of the IUR rail and the rear of the collar/extender. This is something I spent a lot of time attempting to perfect, and once IMGUR is up and running again I'll post all the specs I developed to get "close enough".

That Acog was personally purchased. (I took the pic)

this has been a project of mine for a while! I’m glad to finally see a solid collection of knowledge on the subject. My clone is basically finished minus the pesky Allen Engineering collar and vortex flash hider.

Here’s some more CANSOF IUR photos that I’ve come across on my internet travels....

Just out of curiosity as I have zero knowledge and experience in machining. How difficult of a task was it to have that damn recoil lug removed? I'm hating mine more every day.

Not hard at all. You can do it one of two ways:

1. The professional way: by clamping the upper in a milling machine and removing the material. The big show stopper is access to a milling machine. For a job this small, you could use a drill press with a cross-feed vise. Difficulty level 3 out of 10

2. The "other" way: a die grinder with a sanding disc. With enough care, because of how small it is, you could probably make a pretty clean go of it. Difficulty level 3 out of 10.

In both cases, the important part is to touch up the bare aluminum after it has been reworked. I don't think you could necessarily re-anodize it, but paint at the very least. If you know anyone who works on airplanes, a touch of alodine, epoxy primer, and some flat black polyeurethane paint.
