CANSOF IUR Clone thread

Quick question for those of you here who are currently rocking IUR uppers. Buddy of mine has one on a rifle(15.7 model specifically) he built recently and last time we were out at the range, I noticed his handguard was heating up. Fast. Maybe 3 10 round mags in and and the handguard started to burn the fingers. Don't know if this is normal for the IURs but it seemed to heat up a hell of a lot faster than my Colt USA SOPMOD M4gery. Even the magpul XTMs he had on the rails were getting too hot to touch. Never felt that much heat off an AR rifle after so little shooting, even shooting CAF C7s. Standard ammo, Federal 55gr stuff. No rapid fire or mag dumps. Just want to get a feel for if this is typical of these uppers.

Never felt that with mine before. Maybe a Stupid question but was it a hot sunny day? Maybe it was just attracting sun like a sum#####?
 
Mine does tend to hang onto heat pretty good. Have you checked to see if the little heat shield is in there? If that’s missing, your fingers would be more directly exposed to the heat off the barrel. If you’re gripping the rifle over the gas block, you’ll just have to deal with it

Definitely not stupid, have left a rifle in the sun for part of an afternoon and DAMN was it hot. Sadly though, no. It was early evening on a pleasant temperature day, shooting under cover.

To respond to Fuzzy as well, he has a foregrip on it amd no one was gripping over the top of the rail. Have to check on the heat shield though, didn't even think to look at it come now you point it out. Could very well be it's missing. Otherwise, I'd say it's as with yours and is just holding in heat.

It's an Ops Inc muzzle break made for their brand of sound suppressors.

For awhile only Ops Inc muzzle devices had the ability to mount Ops Inc cans.
 
Interesting tidbit"

In 2013, Ops Inc’s FFL/SOT was revoked for alleged record keeping and export fee violations surrounding a deal for an order of suppressors to the Canadian Military. Thankfully, Allen Engineering kept their FFL and their independent suppressor business and continued to produce all of the current Ops Inc designs as “AE” models. “Besides a few less baffle holes, the designs are exactly the same as the Ops Inc models,” said Allen.

Going back to the barrel length, I came across this photo and if you look closely, you can see the hex screw on the front of the gas block that is used on the SAS 10" barrel. This style of gas block is not used on the MRR
barrel. Its a much heavier gas block using two mounting screws as well as 2 lugs to secure to the barrel.

Crappy low res photo but I lightened the area on the gas block... Definitely the SAS style gas block.

Seriously, North Sylva should order a batch of these uppers so we can forget about patch working together an impossible clone.
