Can't believe it: I bought a Glock !!

I just purchased the same gun (Glock 17G4) as my first handgun, waiting for it to show up now.

I remember back when I was 8 or 9 my Dad bought a copy of Popular Mechanics that featured the original Glock 17, I dog eared the pages of that reading the article over and over about this new plastic pistol that just couldn't be made to stop, loved it ever since, it's 26 years later and I finally managed to get my gun.

Glock 17 gen 4 $799 is the best I could here in my neck of the woods.

I am picking a Glock 22 .40 used. My friend said he doesn't like it.
What's everyone's gripe with the .40 ?

The dollar is low and people are still gouging. There are however a handful of Glock 17's both gen 3 and 4 on the EE for reasonable prices. One add has gun with four mags and holster for $820.

As for 40, the issue is that it costs nearly 50% more than 9mm to buy, it has increased recoil and has zero tangible benefits over 9mm. The .40 cal Glocks tend to be a bit snappy.

Probably because its a .40, I can't stand them. I've got a 19, 17, and a 17L and will never buy one in .40.

Been trying to find a conversion barrel for a good price I dont mind .40 used to shoot and .40 1911 (sti) for competition but the .40 and glock dont mix

High pressure round and is snappier in the glock then most guns mine humbled my shooting greatly. Lots of people shoot them well, im not one of them.

Thanks for the response.

40 in the light Glock is very snappy vs. nothing in 9mm and slow thump of 45ACP.

Benefit of 40 is the 9mm conversion barrel so you can shot both. 9mm conversion barrel is also heavier than factory 9mm so even less recoil than G17.

OP, if you're anything like myself the only upgrade your G17 Gen4 will need (yes, need) are aftermarket sights, steel ones. I opted for trijicon 3 dots but your mileage may vary.

If you do end up buying trijicon sights, a word to the wise would tell you not to buy used of the EE or anywhere else, buy new. While it's true that the Tritium will glow for 15 some odd years(they are date stamped/painted) and there are folks who sell sights that are only a few years old on the EE, thereby having lots of "life" left in the tritium, however, the sights are almost an interference fit in the slide (very tight). Turns out the rear sights of this Ilk are actually "crush fit" in the slide, if you were to reuse someone else's sight that has been installed (crush fit) it will be loose in your slide.

Anyhow, I'm positive you'll like the Glock. I still can't shoot mine with any consistency but love the reliability of it, I'm contemplating getting one in .45 acp to shoot inconstantly with as well:p.

I've never disliked the Glock, its just too much money for what it is. When I say too much money, I mean here in Canada.
$500-$600 I'm on it. The prices are only set to go higher with a weaker Canadian Dollar. When our dollar was strong, Glock didn't adjust the price point, now our dollar is down...whelp...now the prices are going up.

nice pistol, just not for the price.

What's this got to do with Glock? It all has to do with the currency exchange rate. Prices go up because the distributors/retailers here are paying more for the same gun. When the CAD was higher than the USD, prices didn't go down because the distributors/retailers here were hosing us and people were still willing to pay the asking price for them.

No sir-y glocks are the devil. Only law enforcement should have them. So easily convertable into a full auto baby killer even 10 year old gang bangers are converting them. Also being mostly plastic if it were to fall down it would burry itself and such a low signature on a metal detector it would not be found. Eventually with all the careless glock owners dropping their guns the country side will be full of these weapons of death just waiting for a small child to step on and lose a foot. No no i cant have that happen. BAN GLOCKS!!!!!

They are ugly and overpriced. That being said if they were in the 250-300 dollar range Id own one just to say i had one.

Loving mine. Glock 17 g3 bought new for $645 plus tax and ship last month. Now i am trying to decide what next - glock 41 mos, p226 mk25, p320, or tp9sa. Ackkkkk!!! I wish i had more money. Lol

Paid $643.00 at my door in 2013 for my G17gen4, gotta love LEO/MIL supportive businesses.

Trijicon night sights are the way to go

My Gen 3 G17 feels like a 2x4 in my hand.

But it shoots accurately and it very, very rarely jams.

I trust it 100%.

I put tritium sights on it and now it has a trusted place as one of my three "house" guns.

The only interesting guns are ones that are brutal, incredibly reliable and very accurate. I have some glocks and would never trade them. The only thing I don't like is that the Glock trigger takes more effort to master if you are looking to shoot bullseyes rather than just defensive level accuracy. It can be done - and when you can master a glock trigger, all the others are easy.
