Hello,

I have a rifle I just ordered brand new. When I look at rear sight the whole sight is a touch angled right where it sits on reciever. So I went ahead and tried to unscrew to see if I could fix it with no luck, it wont budge

So I broke out the heat gun and got it good and hot and still no luck..feel like its cross threaded from factory!

Any tips of suggestions would appreciated before I send off

Thx

Heat seems the logical step, to loosen locktite, which you have done.

Whatever you do, use new, strong, perfect fitting, screwdrivers. Dont marr the screw head.

Another trick is to strike the screwdriver with a real sharp....careful whack.

Last resort would be to drill out the screw and retap it for a larger fastener. PITA, as aftermarket sights would be McGivered then as well. If it came to this, i would get a gunsmith.

Notice, i have not mentioned taking it back or warranties, that sucks even more, postage and losing your property for probably 3+ months.

Yes tried heat. I would just like to get it off as would like to install techsight in future.

I think its unacceptable that on my new gun never fired a shot right out of gate no aftermarket sight option if I have to retap. I would want a new gun.

Don't know what kind of screw you are dealing with I would remove the barreled action from the stock use a heat gun and possibly an impact drive with the action secure nicely on the bench with a vice.

YMMV

You don't mention what size screw you are dealing with but if its a sight I would think fairly small. A heat gun is tough to get localized heat to the fastener, and a torch will damage things, I have had some luck with using a large soldering iron , get it heated up and hold it on the fastener. It takes a bit because the heat has to travel through the screw. If there is any thread locker on there it should deal with it. If the fastener is still stuck then its probably as you suspected, stripped. drilling is about all you can do.

My 2 cents

Well fired her today with Winchester and pmc, had about 10 failure to extract out of 120 rounds. So now that and the crooked rear sight that I cant take screw out to correct. Kinda bumbed expected more from Ruger. This is a 584 series mini I bought brand new...first time out

Hope Snapshots takes care of me..I guess I will find out
