Cheap to shoot at the range and good for coyote

243
More expensive to shoot as I'm looking at the cost of ammo. I can use it on coyote/deer and its a flat hard hitter!

.243 is not a barrel burner... if you just want to shoot, get the .223... if the rifle might be used as a back-up for deer, then get the .243... either will fetch coyotes.
 
I guess it would be very hard to get a rifle tag for deer in his area as it is a muzzle loaded shotgun area along with a bow season ,lol if you are just going to shot paper and hunt yotes then the 223 is the answer ..a 243 is a great rifle for deer and yotes but thy are a loud gun .Dutch
 
223 is the way to go - cheap and easy shooting, load 65gr bonded bullets for deer, if you want something a little bigger go for a 25-06 way better than a 243!
 
243 I have had bang flops on deer with a 243, an excellent back up for 308 as I believe a 243 is a necked down 308

If you hunt deer with a 223 I will judge you as a douchebag
 
Get the .223. The caliber restrictions in your area and many other Southern Ontario counties and townships applies only for small game. Big game is shotgun and bow only. The .223 is more than sufficient and you still have the .308 for when you hunt larger game elsewhere.
 
If you're shooting coyotes, is the goal to retrieve the hide, or just to make them dead? If you are saving the fur, I would go .223, otherwise go .243. It's a great long range shooter, and it will be perfect for deer with a heavy bullet.

I like combo's that drop coyotes DRT (drops right there) for me the 223 stops doing that at 150 yards the 22-250 does it out to 300 yards.

My buddy just bought a stainless Tikka T3 Lite in 243 for coyotes it is crazy accurate with his coyote loads and he can also carry more suitable for bear loads for when he bumps into one.
 
The 243 is a much more versatile cartridge, works better in the wind, carries better over distance and rolls wolves and coyotes right out to 400 mtrs. Works every bit as good on gophers at 100 mtrs as well. Not as cheap to shoot as the 223 but the extra performance is well worth it in my opinion. As far as being inferior to the 25-06, I would challenge that notion. For what I use the 243 for, game up to small deer, it has few peers and the 25-06 just burns more powder, kicks more, and makes more noise, to do the same job.........and it leaves a much bigger hole in dogs.........


Now if you really want the ultimate combination rifle there is the 234 Penguin...........It flies like a 220 Swift, hits like a 257 Wby and shoots groups like a 6 BR, with bullet weights from 80 - 110 grns and has a "cool factor" of 11 1/2 out of 10 ........;););):cool::cool::cool:
