As the topic says, I have a choice between 2 toys: Walther P99 in 9 mm or Glock 22 in .40.

Both are late models and there is no cost difference between them. I just don't know which one to take! I want both, but probably cannot afford to do so.

PS. Never had them before.

Dont like .40 and I think the Walther is a piece of junk. How bout a Sig?

I owned a P99 in .40.

It was "snappy". It was not fun to shoot--and that's why you're in this game, right?

Also, try to find accessories for a P99. Good luck.

After having owned several brands of handguns, I've settled on a Glock 17 and 22.

  • parts are plentiful
  • accessories are unlimited and easy to get
  • it's easy to maintain--or don't maintain it. Some don't clean until hundreds or thousands of rounds have gone through it.
  • it doesn't want to be operated wet. It's perfect with a few drops of oil in a few places.
  • It's as accurate as anything else, which means more accurate than I am.
  • If I drop it, I don't care. If G17 and G22 are rubbing together in the safe, I don't care.
  • it's totally intuitive in use
  • I used to think Glocks were ugly tools. Now, I have respect for it, so it's just a tool. But that's what I wanted: a tool for range, comp and confident carry.
By all means, investigate a Sig. They're a few hundred dollars more than Glock these days. Only you can decide if they're worth it to you. I stopped using my P226 only because the rigid frame and high bore axis irritated my old right wrist. But I still really like everything about a Sig.

Glock is nice. G17 is my favourite pistol so far. I've owned Ruger Gp-100, Cz 75, Norinco 1911, Ruger SR9, Ruger 22/45, and will prolly never go any other direction other than a 1911 and a Glock. Right now it is just my G17 and my Nork 1911 which I am slowly improving.

G22 all the way. the trigger, you must be use to it, but i can get as good grouping as with my shadow. the P99 is a piece of sh**,clunky like a smith semi-auto in stock trim.

25 metres. i must excuse myself for that damn flyer lolol.

The P99 feels great in my hand. I think that's the only positive thing I can think of. Parts are hard to get, trigger feeling is so-so, the mag release is ankward, mags are crazy expensive $80 each.

Seriously, get a Glock 22

After shooting thousands of rounds through one, the Glock 22 .40 cal would be my "go to" in a SHTF scenario.

Personally, I wouldn't buy the Walther. If I was looking for a 9mm it would be a BHP... ;)

So, of your choices I'd go Glock. And that's how I voted.
