Need some help here I am torn between the HK 45 And the HK USP 45 stainless...

Pros and cons to both???

What has a shorter trigger reset? Also I have small hands which one do you think would fit better? Are mags the same for both? Is it better to go with the USP because it is stainless or is the finish on the blued HK 45 just as good ???

Hold both in your hand. They are similar mechanically but they feel totally different in the hands. Mags are not cross compatible. Fit and finish on both guns is top notch.

HK 45 has much smoother/lighter trigger than USP series.
Much more comfortable/adjustable grip.

I'm waiting for the HK45 compact myself. HK45 is a BIG gun.

I think that the USP stainless is one of the best looking pistols out there. That said I agree that you should hold both and see what is more comfortable for you.

I had a USP stainless and it was a great looking gun and easy to clean and maintain, but I could not get any accuracy out of it.

I group well with my Glock but with the USP I couldn't get anything resembling a grouping. I also hated the grip on it. I am not sure if this particular USP was a lemon, but I woulnd't buy another USP without first trying one from someone else.

Take the previous advice and atleast hold both if not trying to shoot both

Its hard as both are top notch guns and the dealers around me don't have either in stock so i really cant hold both. what concerns me is the grip on the pistols the HK45 looks better than the USP and from what i have herd it seems to be the better pistol I would just love to have it in stainless....
You could get the hk45 and have it hard chromed.
Maurice where can this be done

Never handled/fired an HK45, but I traded my 2nd P-99 for Flankers HK USP in .45. Even with the gun as criminally filthy as it was (Flanker's a great guy but refuses to clean his firearms, I had to spray 1/2 a can of WD40 into the action just to get it into "acceptable" condition:p :p ), this is the 1st pistol I ever shot so well with right from the start!

The DA portion of the trigger is jerky, yet I can hit near the center of a target @ 25yds using the DA as a 1st shot. Definitley an awesome firearm, you cannot go wrong with it. If the DA trigger was smoother, it'd be the only gun I'd own! Well, mebbe not ;)

The HK45 comes with 2 different sizes of interchangeable backstraps, so if you have smaller hands the small backstrap should fit you well. With the USP it's one size fits all. So try before you buy. But both are fantastic firearms and you can't really go wrong with either.

Now THIS thread I'm qualified to comment on. :)

I owned a Stainless USP .45 for about 2 years. VERY nice gun - I loved it. Accurate, and felt 'okay' in my hands. A bit of a brick, but the ergos worked well for me. It ate anything I fed it - ball, hollowpoint, wadcutter - everything - without a hitch. No failures of any kind, even with rather weak loads. Loved it.

Sold it to buy a Kimber Warrior (which I also love).

Went into TSE one day and saw an HK45. Asked to hold it, and fell in love. Picture heating up the USP with a blowtorch, and then squeezing the grip until in molds into your hand perfectly. That's the hk45. :) Makes the USP feel TERRIBLE in comparison.

I bought one recently on this board, and I love it. The ambi slide release and mag release are perfect for me. I just need a V2 level (anyone know a source) and it will be the perfect gun.

If I had to decide between the two, I'd pick the HK45 any day of the week. I don't have big hands, and it fits me MUCH better than the USP. Trigger is also better (both DA and SA) on the HK45.

I got an HK45, the grip and ambi release is what sold me.

In most cases, using your trigger finger to drop the magazine is easier if you have difficulty dropping it with your thumb; furthermore, it conditions you to keep your trigger finger outside the trigger guard during reloads.

The grips are very ergonomic, but not perfect. I personally think the texturing of the grip surfaces are too coarse and rough. Because the gun is so light compared to aluminum or steel frames, you're hands will have to deal with more kick and muzzle lift; and over a long period of shooting you could experience "rug-burn" in your hands. Then again, the gun was designed to be all business, meant for operators with strong grips and that don't want their weapons slipping out of wet hands.

But for me, what really defines this pistol as a modern gun is the ease of maintenance. A lot of semi-auto firearms have countless nooks and crannies within their mechanisms. Fouling, dust, grit, scum, will accumulate in these hard-to-reach places, and unless you're a confident gunsmith, you'll have difficulty achieving a complete clean. The HK45 on the other hand, has minimized the amount of fouling that can get into this areas, such as the mainspring housing and trigger mechanism. The designers also reduced the number of angles, divots, and sharp edges so that rags, papers towels, and swabs don't get caught in anything and reduces the amount of "picking" you need to do with toothpicks or swabs.

As for accuracy, it is VERY accurate, you do not have to worry about accuracy, for a gun this pricey, accuracy is a given.
