title says it all,

I cant find a Keltec KSG to save my life, anyone know a dealer that actually carries these things? (and I mean in stock that I can actually buy?)

As well to any KSG owners, im looking to build a "Oh Sh!t its a Bear" build, any tips on a sight that has quick take up and silly long battery life, like.... 9 day hike, lft it on by accident battey life?

You guys are the best.

Aimpoint red-dots are the king of battery life.

You can literally leave them on for five years on a single battery.

Guys who need to carry a rifle for their job really like that feature. They never have to worry about turning it off and on.
They just leave it on 24/7, and change the battery every couple years.

If you want one, you want one but I must say that for me it was an awkward shotgun to shoot, ymmv. I sold mine and bought a Mossberg 590A1 and really enjoy it much more.

See them on the EE, couple on there right now. If you train with it it will work just as good as anything else. Just have to pump it like you mean it. I'd just toss a set of irons on it, quick to ready and he best battery life out there! Slap a hand stop on it, maybe a compensator or choke tube adaptor (just to make the muzzle a little longer than the handguard), maybe a light and run that thing until you feel confident in it. Does take some getting used to, but mine was just as reliable as the guy running it. They are used by US corrections SOG. If they were as bad as a lot of people spout off about I doubt they would be running them. Realistically if a grizzly wants to mess up your day you probably won't even get a shot off but that's another topic for another thread.

Aimpoint Aimpoint or Aimpoint if you want insane battery life.

My gen 2 KSG was reliable and fun but the novelty wore off and I sold it. I think for packing in the bush for bear protection I'd just go with a Mossberg 500 persuader. You can get one for $350 and they will work every time no matter what the conditions and you don't need to buy any sights.

Its important to consider how laws affect how efficient your platform will be.

For storage and transport, the firearm must be unloaded. Honestly the KSG is the worst, most un practical firearm to load, and that is at the range with no stress. Its cool, and it would be decent if we could leave it loaded, but our laws do not allow for this.

As such I vote for something mag fed (double edged sword, many mag fed shotguns have trouble feeding, but some designs work exceptionally well), I currently have a Uzkon UNG-12 on pre-order with TI (it is still waiting for RCMP approval), assuming it prooves reliably after a lengthy break in period, I hope to put it into the predator defense roll for camping.

The KSG is terribly annoying to load or unload. And you have to pump it hard, both back and forward. Im hoping that they will wear in with time.

In a panic situation, short stroking will leave you with an empty chamber, and not pushing forward hard enough won't set the extractors, and will leave the empty in the chamber

Hi all, thanks for all the feedback.

a stellar CGN'er reached out to me and sold me a KSG.

It just arrived, and I have read some reviews, and take head to the detraction's.

my plan is just to train train train, and as long as I can pump aim and nail the first shot or two realistically at that point the bear is pawing my face off.

so to drills and training I go!

Figure out if you have a gen 1 or 2, the gen 1 were known for being stiff to pump and were easier to have problems with if you were not careful. The gen 2 I had cycled smoothly and was very reliable. If you have a gen 1 Vault Distribution can handle having yours upgraded to the gen 2 specs.

The KSG definitely has pros and cons. The biggest con for me was that I couldn't plink with cheap birdshot, as it tended to swell up and not extract. With slugs and buckshot it was fine. Definitely put a hand stop of some sort on it!

Glad you found one. Enjoy the gun. ive always been a fan of the bull pulp shotgun design though ive yet to own one ive shot a few and really like how they felt and the design. Ignore all the negative stuff some of these people post and enjoy the gun. if you like it enjoy it! cheers
