Can't find my hulls!

We went out for goose opener and I got to try out my new old gold 10. First flock of birds fly over, they don't like the spread, I pull the trigger twice and 2 birds fall. Awesome.

Where's my hulls? Green grass and grain stubble with brown federal casings. I took 5 shots before getting mad about not finding hulls and went back to the 12. I swear it must fling them 20 feet.

My real question. Does anyone put some paint their hulls to find them? I was thinking some high heat high vis orange paint where the brass and plastic meet. Anyone else do this? Opinions?

Hard to reload when you can't find your hulls lol

I'm not a fan of winchester shells plus they don't sell then here in 10. Hypersonic and Federal are my choices.

Do the best you can, that's about all you can do. I wouldn't personally paint the hulls (wouldn't want it flaking-off in the gun OR on the ground) but that's your call. You sound like a conscientious hunter, and yes..we should all do the best we can to clean-up after ourselves. I think ethical hits on game with good shells you/your gun shoot well is an equally important consideration.

If it's private land you have access too, just go back when the grass is dying-off/low. If you're there late enough in the day (ON the day of the hunt) a flashlight will pick-up the glare off the brass pretty quick. That's how we find hulls in long grass when shooting clays at my buddy's farm. We use the plastic hand thrower to comb through the grass shining a light down. They become very obvious, quick.

I dont like the idea of paint either. I prefer to shoot Winchester and Federals especially because they are red making it easier to see. The steel challengers that are gold and olive drab in colour are the worst to find. Agree with the comment above about shooting a round to see where it goes. Once you see where it lands, you’re sure to find the rest close by

Ya man I’m with you ...I too went out for the opener.....what a good time ...but the shoulder is sore as f#$k the 3.5 have a punch .....and Christ almighty fired 2 boxes and I can’t find my hulls ...only 5 were found ...and like 15ft 18 ft away.... they fly too !!!
This sport is way too much fun !!

How did you do? I only fired 7 shots over the weekend. Three before I realized I had the wrong choke in the gun, and 3 more the next day after I switched to an appropriate choke which allowed me to get 2 birds, and a final shot to finish a cripple on the water.

With 10 gauge I think he is limited to what Federal produces for ease of identification of the gauges.
Yellow for 20 gauge, Purple for 16 gauge, Red for 12 gauge.
But, I do remember Blue Imperials, light Blue for Remington Peters and some green ones too.
You'll need a spotter to help locate where the beast is chucking them hulls, bad enough you gotta mark the downed bird now you gotta start looking for them expensive hulls, lol.
Congrats on the double header.

Sit on the left side of a buddy and let him catch the shells lol
Last year in the blind with my new hunting buddy i said i got the semi i should be on the right. He stated he had to be on that side. Poor guy got hammered with hulls. I sat giggled all morning
Serious note take a look at the velcro style ar brass catchers and try to make something similar that will catch or deflect the hulls without knocking them back in to the feed path
