I just put a box of shells threw a Springfield 1911a1 I just got. My 1st 1911. I'm trying to push down the Recoil Spring Plug so I can Rotate the Barrel Bushing Clockwise. I can't get the plug to push in. I don't think I have Nancy hands. Can I insert an Allen key to push?
Thanks
Clint

Realized my mistake. Trying to push both the plug and the guide in. So now I've pushed the plug in and tried to rotate the barrel bushing but it catches on the end of the guide
??

If there is a hole for ano allen key, you have to unscrew the full length guide rod before the gun will come apart.

Not seeing anything about that in the instructions. Older model, Defender, was told late '70's
Nor any mention of any allen key

Its unscrews left and tightens right. It may have a touch of locktite ( non_permanant). When you put it back together you can use a touch of non permanant locktite on it. As mind would unscrew under heavy shooting.

If your looking down the barrel and the guide rod underneath the barrel has a spot of ano elm key, the its a full length guide rod and you have to unscrew it.

Once you get it apart, the next step is to toss the full length guide rod and replace it with a GI guide rod and recoil spring plug.

Had to get a better allen key.
Looks like it's a go now.
Thanks everybody
Clint

you got to put it together after you clean it lmao. That can be fun too. As was mentioned watch the newbie scratch. Check out some youtube videos, its just type in springfield 1911 field strip. Should be lots there.

This is also a good idea. ^^^^

Then you can get plugs like this.. normal or funny.
