Can't get this rifle to shoot straight!!

It's a Winchster Model 70 in 300WSM , with a Bushnell Legend & Lynx mounts. It shoots to the right, even with the adjustable mounts set all the way to the right & the scopes windage adjusted all the way to the right. It still shoots 3" to the right at 25 yards. The only thing I can think of, is a new set of mounts & rings. Any suggestions?
 
Don't stop at the rings, get yourself a decent scope. That one may have taken a beating from the recoil??

Seriously I would question the ring, scope combination long before the gun!!
 
He is right you moved the ring adjustment the wrong way the rule is move your rear sight in the direction you want to move the shot on the target.
 
Is the scope mounted correctly? i have seen one mounted and rotated 90 degrees so the turrets were on the top and the left, not like they should be on the top and on the right.
 
No, I didn't move the adjustments the wrong way. I've mounted lots of scopes over the last 35 years. Anyway, in frustration and self doubt, I tried moving the adjustments all the way the other way & it shot so far to the right it could hit the next target over. Definitely mounted correctly, windage on the side,elevation on the top.

in the last 35 years you probably learnt that quality mounts are well worth the extra cost. Its ok, we all have our bad days ;)
 
... Forgetting the scope adjustments for the moment, are you getting a consistent grouping ? If so, it would tend to confirm that the problem lies with, mostly likely the mounts not being in alignment, and possibly, the scope being "damaged" ...... and that could well be that the adjustment mechanism is faulty . Warranty coverage if it's the scope ? ... David K. ...
 
first take off the scope, then take off the worlds second cheapest and crappiest set of rings, then list the gun for sale and get a real rifle. The last years of Winchesters life were pretty poor on teh quality control. Sounds to me like the holes are drilled wrong.
 
Go to Home Depot and pickup the straightest piece of 1 inch dowel you can find.
Pop the scope off and drop the dowel into the rings with the dowel overhanging the barrel. If the problem isn't obvious, then it's either a bad scope or bad crown.
 
I never had a problem with a weaver holding. had them on a .22-250 and a .270win. not big recoilers. they did put lovely little dents in the side of my scope tube though :bangHead:

Pfffffffffftttttt......hahahaha. Bushnell....warranty.....goodness me that's funny. I'm sorry, 'cause I am sure I just stepped on some toes. Bushnell is notorious for taking their sweet @$$ time with YOUR stuff that THEY made. The only scopes made by Bushnell in the last 15 years that can RELIABLY be mounted on anything over a .270 WCF are the 3200 and 4200 series. And that is because Bausch and Lomb STILL makes them.
Try different bases and rings(I am assuming you are using bases with a windage rear, because a weaver style means the holes are out of alignment), but I have dealt with dozens of people who mounted similar scopes on the same types of rifles and I would bet it's the scope.
I've seen a lot of scopes go 'tinkle, tinkle' and Bushnell and Tasco top the list for these issues.
