cant hit s@$t with my m 14

Flash hider is tight but is marked inside and is even the whole way around ,marks on all the fins.what is the spec for inside diameter of the flash hider?is it possible to need reamed?

It is stamped "norinco m14 sporter C.A.I. ST ALB VT " stamped on the receiver ,previous owner never fired it.it is in a boyds walnut stock (from what I can tell) and yes tried 3 different knids of ammo ,federal blue box 180's were 8" group

Slug, I am pretty close to you (I'm in Bonnyville) and can take a look at it if you would like. We can then mic the flash hider to see if that is the issue. you wrote that you tried 3 different kinds of ammo, but the Federal Blue box 180's gave you the poor grouping. What other brands did you shoot and how did they group?

Also the stamp seems a little goofy. Can you post a picture of it?

The m14 is NOT designed for 180 gr bullets and associated gas pressure. BUT, I doubt that is causing your issue but I'll echo the typical warnings... Do not exceed 174gr
My first recommendation would be to scope the bore, looking carefully for bore issues around the gas port, throat and muzzle.
Inspecting the flash hider and it's barrel mounting location. Look for any remnant of original flash hider welds. Inspect inside of flash hider vanes for strikes. Inspect straightness with an alignment tool.
Most chinese flash hiders I've handled are already "NM" diameter, which If memory serves me right is .495"? But I can check. We typically use a #7 taper reamer and lots of cutting fluid for the job.

To get 8 or 10 inch groups at 25 yards you have to have something extremely wrong.

Can you wiggle the rear sight aperture at all? or the front blade?

Is there any copper showing in the opening of the flash hider?

Honestly, 8-10" i'd be checking that the barrel was tight! Or myself. I reckon i could throw 7.62 more accurately at 25 yards.

No I wasn't drinking that day,I found front sight wiggled a bit ,set screw wasn't in tight.I'm gonna get some 150's and try it again this weekend , got a guy from work who is gonna to
Shoot this gun this weekend to rule out opperator error, might be but I haven't any trouble with any of my other rifles hitting what I aim at ,everybody pulls one from time to time but 20 rounds all over the paper, and especially at that range.I get better groups with my bow.

Seriously,........an update from your second range outing is what we would like to hear about and any new data or observations.

That right there is your issue. As this rifle platform has the most violent recoil on any semi auto I have ever fired minus the Barret 50 BMG. You probaly didn't noticed but your irons are toast and there for blaming the rifle and not the sight's. This happens alot with this platform. As some people figure since it is so cheap that they will get a cheap or poorly designed mount and scope for this rig and blame the lack of accuracy on the rifle when in fact it's the sighting system that has failed. Look for a thread about the italian connection and see if he has any left in stock thus your problem will be solved.
