Cant make up my mind!

If you don't like to tinker and its your first gun get a bolt action (Savage mark 2), if your stuck on the semi idea get a marlin 795. I got a 10/22 as my first but that's because I wanted to highly customize it, there was a g36 look a like kit for it, and I wanted reliable 25 round mags. But out of the 2 choices, go with 10/22. Here's mine:

i just came back from my first time shooting a brand new 10/22 and i don't know what's wrong with you guys accuracy.. i hanged golf balls at 50-75-100-115 feet and after 5 minutes of adjusting the scope, was nailing them all with extreme precision.. after an hour and a few hundred round, the 115 was nearly too easy to shoot..

no offense but 115 feet is only 38 yards, nothing to brag about. many people shoot that with pistols... your 10/22 will be accurate much further

that being said my 10/22 marauder arrived today hehe, cant wait to get it out

597 vtr and a Mk2 bolt....i reach for the Mk2 as much if not more than the VTR, not because its better or more accurate, but placing those shots withing a 3" shoot-n-C and taking your time is very rewarding....

IMO its hard to go wrong with this.

189.99 and it comes with a semi-heavy barrel and a bushnell scope.

I had to build a cheek riser for it but other than that and adjusting the trigger a bit its a tack driver and a LOT of fun.

SleepyG, I love to tinker its what I do, I've tinkered with just about everything I own, and I think it's the large aftermarket availability that also draws me to the 10/22!

Either way I'll be going shopping tomorrow, and I'll post pics of whatever I do end up choosing!

Thanks for the input guys!

I had the same problem, best thing to do is shoulder as many as possible. im long limbed I ended up with a CZ 452 LR shoulders and sights in fantastic.
my philosophy is if your going to buy something get the best you can afford.

Of the two you mentioned I'd go with the 10-22. It does feel a bit small but I grew accustomed to it. It's a great gun that will provide years of reliable fun in stock form but also has unlimited upgrades should you decide to customize it. There is also a replacement recoil pad available that will increase LOP slightly.

i had this thought as well

i go 50 yards and have a Marlin XT and a 795
both are awesome and fun shooters out of the box accurate
i give the edge on accuracy to the XT Bolt absolute tack driver with 24X scope

But that rapid fire with the 795 is alot of fun
