I dremeled around the area where I thought the spot welds were... still wont move. The castle nut is loose no problem. Where are the spot welds usually?, I have not tried to drill, yet.......
Thanks for looking,
wcmd.

yes, it broke the weld, and I`m still using the FH that came with my M305...
I have it done on 3 guns and saved all 3 FH...
all these guns were from different shops and times....
I bought my 2 years ago from MilArm/Edmonton, 2 other were about have a year old from Marstar bunch.....so, I cannot say that every gun will have a weak weld at the FH....
try, and maybe it will come off....if not - drill, but don`t drill the barrel....you will need it later :))))
cheers and Merry X-mas :)

I just cut mine off. I'll never use it again and without the lug their not worth much and thus not worth the effort.

I finally got the flash hider off.... In the process the FH got pretty beat up. Would any one be willing to sell me one of the norinco take offs for cheep. I am located in Edmonton.
Thanks for all the replies, it really helped.

You are not alone beating the shzt out of yer Norinco FS. In my Abbotsford clinic you will hear the background beating of the flash hiders by many CGNutters on their M14's. It's really quite hilarious.

Welcome to the addiction.

The flash hiders were welded to the barrels to comply with US import regulations before all further imports were banned. Hate to say it, but it would seem that the flash hider welding exhibits the same level of quality control that, say, barrel indexing does.

The ease of FH removal depends on how much of a weld there is.Not all FHs are welded the same amount.

My first FH came off by simply hitting with a mallet. This FH was ok after removal.

Most all of the other FHs I have removed required the drilling of welds and mallet massage.Even then they were a ##### to get off.About half off the removed FHs were candidates for the garbage can afterwards. The area around the weld spots usually tear........

#### me. the weld spots on mine -if that's what they are- look to be a good 7-8 mm in diameter. I have hit as hard as I can and it won't budge. (from most recent marstar shipment)

What aftermarket FH's can easily replace the norc one?

I only want to take it off so I can shim the gas system, now i am thinking it's not worth the trouble. :(

How are you guys immobilizing the rifle while you pound away?

Thanks.

The rings are large, but the actual welds are usually only about 2-3 mil.

That is why you just drill at the centre.

I have done this removal by placing the recoil lugs on the edge of a wood table, having someone hold it while I smash it.

Others have placed the gas plug on the bench and done it that way.

The thing the recoil lugs is your strongest/safest way.

and as for heat......way to much and you might damage the barrel......it'd take a lot mind you but in the 'heat' of the moment (excuse the pun) with frustration running high you might get carried away.
