Ok Guys, everyone has had his fun. The OP is a Newbie and hasn't been around long enough to receive his Goat yet, so lets cut him a bit of slack. I think he now gets the idea of sighting in at rock throwing distance is not really practical.
Almost everyone here has had a "brilliant" idea at one time or another, and it takes some experience and time to get these things out of our heads.
While some things might appear to be better, like sighting in at a very close range, they are not really the way to do things. According to Aeronautical Theory, a Bumble Bee is not capable of flight, but it does so quite well.
