Yes it's a JP 2 part barrel nut.

The way it goes together you're pretty much committed to a JP handguard of some kind for the life of the upper but that didn't bother me.

60 rounds down range tonight for break in as per JP recommendation.
The rifle liked Federal Fusion 120 Gr more than Hornady ELD Match 123gr.
Only shot two groups and here's the Fusion. I'll be getting higher rings for it as these are just a bit too low.
Mags are very tight to seat and hopefully wear in. I had some failures to lock the bolt back so I will probably drive out my bolt catch pin and take the grinder to it.
Very happy with it so far despite the tight tolerances.

I have NF High 1.125" rings on it now but will go with a one piece cantilever mount with some cant and probably 1.5" height. These rings are ok for prone but too low on the bench.

I have an XCR-L in 6.5 Grendel and it really likes the 120 Fusion ammo compared to Hornady 123 AMax.
Prophet River did a lot better than 4 on it for me! But yes I know what you mean ha.
