Savage 110FP 7mm RM (thanks Marlin @ Frontier, excellent to deal with!). Spent a night hand sanding down all the machining marks, rounding edges, opening out barrel channel and bedding the gun - no unfortunate 'incident' like last time around, where I put a plug of epoxy up into the front action screw hole :redface: The plastic is surprisingly much firmer than some I have handled, don't know if Savage were using different plastic a couple of years ago (rifle is NIB '03 or '04) but the stock at the barrel end doesn't flex on the bipod or even with a pretty firm 'hand wiggle'.

Bushnell 6x24x50mm Tactical, installed by myself - first scope install, boresighted by eye in my garage so the first shot could go almost anywhere!:50cal: Actually, have it well centered with the bore, just concerned about being possibly *very slightly* off rotation from true flat. Leupold bases, Signature rings but without the elevation adjusting inserts for now.

Limbsaver slipover, couldn't find a 'grind to fit' with the correct screw spacing - in the end, I very much like the length of pull it adds and so am OK with it for now.

Have 25 rounds of 162gr Amax loaded up with RL 22 working up from 60gr in .5 gr increments. And I have to work or travel every day and night until next Saturday.....hopefully the weather is decent next weekend :cool: Genesee here I come.

I used no clay, no filler at all. Just went a little lighter with the epoxy in the front screw area, generously lubed the screwhole and inside of the action with release agent, and most importantly knew to check there after seating the action in the epoxy. None bled up, none got pushed up by the screw at all in fact - but I was diligent and watching for it just in case. Din't wanna spend another $20 at the 'smiths getting another one cleaned out - I think my picture's hanging there as 'Idjit of the Month - October '07' as it is.:sucks:

Yeah, it's a good thing those slip ons work so good. Finding a recoil pad for those savage synthetic stocks is damn near impossible. Savage needs to team up with some folks just like Remington did with their R3 pads.
 
Pachmyr, Hogue or Limbsaver. They all make pre fit pads for the various models.

Just no one makes pads for ALL possible stock shapes.

Nice rifle by the way. Was on my shopping list but I already have a HB 7mm.

Was out today for its 2nd run, load testing. Didn't break out the new chrony as it was 0C with 2" of snow on the ground, just wanted to shoot and go home lol. I know some of the loads below are well shy of max.

61.5 gr Re22 over a Win magnum primer, behind a 162 AMax, shoots like a house afire. Shooting 5 shot groups from 100m, put 3 thru the same hole several times. Didn't, however, get a full 5 worth posting/bragging up. The same load over a CCI primer not near as good.

Also took some Re25 loads over CCI primers, 68gr shows promise, gonna try 68.5 and 69. 67 was the pits.

All of this was with Win factory brass, now I have a bunch of once fired to play with /happy. This gun shoots better out of the box than my .223 BTVSS, which I have been mildly disappointed with.
 
Even with the cold, the barrel is going to get hot fast. I have never had any success with more then 3 shot groups. The barrel simply overheats and walks.

Look for 2 shot groups but do 3 for a total of 6rds. Give the barrel time to cool off between pairs. This works best with any light contoured barrel and magnum cartridges. If the load is good, you will get 6 pairs overlapping.

With the temps falling, definitely look at using a magnum primer. I have used Fed 215M for years and they work great. The Win LRM is another good one. Haven't used any CCI LRM recently so can't say but I am sure it will also work great.

Don't be shy about working around a good load in 2 tenths. That can really help tune things into bughole groups. So if 61.5gr works, go 61.1, 61.3, 61.7. Do two groups of 2rds. Might just surprise you.
