I've been looking at slug guns. The option of a cantilever slug barrel is certainly handy, but I'm not convinced the accuracy would be good. Anyone have any experience with a cantilever scope mount slug gun? How's the accuracy/consistency?
Why would the accuracy be bad?
Your optic is mounted directly to your barrel.... doesn't get much more consistent than that.
So your cantilever slug gun shoots pretty good?
Mine will clover leaf 3 shots at 100yds shooting from a rest. I think they are better than having the scope on the receiver. You could pin the barrel and mitigate the movement between shots if you want to put a scope on the receiver. So your cantilever slug gun shoots pretty good?

What brand of sabots are you using?
I have a basic 2 3/4” Remington Wingmaster, but I scored a barrel from Cabelas years ago that I have never seen offered for sale again. It was made by Ithaca for the 870. It has very heavy barrel walls and has to be tapped into the receiver with a rubber mallet. I shoot Hornady SST sabots and I can only get that accuracy if I use a lead sled because the trigger still sucks. It’s an unusually good shooter. What brand of sabots are you using?

Yes, interesting that my gunsmith mentioned pinning the barrel in pump/semi's improve slug gun accuracy.
The 870 has such an easy trigger to make lighter and crisp... same for the Remington pump and semi auto rifles...
Get it done...

Because the mating of the barrel to the receiver can be poor. Not wanting to permanently pin my 870 cantilever barrel, I followed some advice (probable from here) to make a shim from beer can aluminum inserted between the barrel and the receiver. This significantly improved my groups.
