Little help please, am I missing something here. I just bought this and would like to disassemble to clean but the barrel will not come off. I have owned an 870 for many years so the concept is not new to me as I have disassembled it completely dozens of times. The manual shows how to do it and it is the exact same as an 870. Do these newer ones (man. 2018) not come apart. I have tried bolt open, bolt closed, I tried putting in a spent shell and gently taping it but no dice. I also loosened the end nut a fraction of a turn and fired a couple of rounds hoping to loosen things but I do not want to damage it of course. I do not want to force it any further then this, any recommendations? Yeah I know, I should have just bought another 870 but the price was right and I bought it on a whim.

I had trouble getting the barrel off my dominion Kodiak the other day, turns out it was just a really tight fit and I tapped it with a nylon punch and hammer under the receiver tube ring to drive it off. I love my regulator too BTW

Hey grimalkin did yours remove easily or did it need to be persuaded. I am going to try the oil thing today.

I remember it being tight, but can’t remember how tight it was. It actually is a bit tricky to get off and on for the first time.

Finally got it off. Holy, that is a snug fit. I needed to tap the end with a block of wood and a hammer just to get it back on. Should not be that tight.

I have commander an the first time or 2 is tough to get the barrel out. Ended up hitting the barrel ring on the edge of my bench to get it off. When you have the barrel out the chamber end has a little tab . That slides into the reciever notch until you bang it in an out a few times it will be tough going. I bought the 28" vent rib barrel an had to do the same thing a few times to get it shaped.

I had exactly the same experience. The tab on the 28” barrel wasn’t completely lined up with groove on the receiver. The tab was slightly offset rotationally. Once I got it off I could see where it was binding. I tweaked it with a file. Shouldn’t have to, but it’s a $400 12ga with lots of features. Works easily now.

Yup had the same issue here, the tab on the end of the barrel makes it a bit snug. Hit it with a file and it will make it much easier to take on off

I had to do that too
