I'm guessing .50 BMG barrel case. M2's barrel is 45" long. Absolute WHAG though.

I don't think so. Some sort of other marking.

Doesn't look like anything military to me either.

zippers fail and aren't quiet, I doubt it's related to a firearm. we still use those cloth/plastic tabs for our C9 barrel bags and boxes of ammo.

Tent pole bag of some sort.

Looks like a tent pole bag but is missing the two hold downs for packing on a horse. Might be a shoulder carry tent pole bag.

stitching is also very cheap and weak. you don't see that on barrel/wpn bags

The second picture is the "sold out of service" stamp. Brit, I think. The faded 3rd stamp might be a Broad Arrow C.
Use of zippers has nothing to do with military or not military. Nor does quiet. C1A1 cleaning kits, et al, came in a zippered pouch.
What are the other dimensions? How big around is it when open?

zipper end is 4" X 3" when zipped

Hi. Suspect that'd be too big for an MG barrel bag. Unless it was for a water cooled MG. Doesn't strike me as a tent pole bag either though.
Entirely possible it was home made too.
