Cape buffalo, with a knife..

Anyone else notice the buffalo was shot before it was stabbed?

An African buffalo takes some killing before he understands he has undergone a change in status. Other than a brain or spine shot, gunshots are little more than an inconvenience for Mbogo, and he has a reputation for bringing terrible retribution to his tormentors. Were an elephant as tough, nothing handheld could stop him.

My thoughts as well, he was on a timer likely, and it worked out. The knife didn't hurt, might have got some light inside him and helped. Nonetheless it took balls on the son's part.

Love the dorks hacking crap up in the intro...

Suppose we have to remember who most cold steel knives are sold to, many a 22 year old Alabama delivery truck driver would see those guys in a different light. It could have been a great video without the pro staff feature of angry faces and war cries.

Enjoyed the African part.

Yes, it took more balls than brains on the son's part (and if it were my father lying there I wish I would turn out braver than smart, too.) I think they were lucky the stabbing distracted the buffalo enough in his last moments from getting on with killing the father, but I'm sure if they had managed to stay out of range it would have dropped dead of that single gunshot wound.

If I have to go into bear country and can't carry a gun, I at least carry a big long knife. Not thinking I will be able to kill a bear with it, more in hope that I can make sure a bear has to finish killing me before it starts to eat me.

Obviously it worked out in the end, and hindsight is 20 20 but... I can't help thinking while the guy is being mauled and screaming "shoot him! SHOOT HIM!" just maybe drop the camera and shoot. Seems too much like trying harder to get a good commercial and footage than actually taking care of the situation.

Note to self, don't hunt with those jackasses. They got lucky. If they had an ounce of brains between them in those thick Boer skulls that buffalo would have been shot again and again and again. The notion that the knife did a damned thing is laughable to anyone that knows anything about African buffalo or knives.

Don't even get me started about the fact that the bull in question might have been 5 years old, was immature and, likely, a half-tame ranch buff. Anyone that puts a client on such an animal should have their license revoked by PHASA.
