Casing is the way an animal is skinned and dried for the commercial fur market, makes a rug or full mount impossible.

Casing is just a way of removing the hide from the body. Preping it for auction or as a wall hanger

I too prefer the way an open skinned hide drapes. Couldn’t a tube skinned hide be opened up and the “corners” kneaded out?

You could, But when case skinned and stretched on a board you will still have that triangle effect in it when rug skinned. I guess you could wet it again then stretch on plywood. Front legs will look odd.

I rug skinned my last one, Waiting on a chunk of felt to sew it to before I hang it up. First time doing it this way, Always case skinned.

Yup, pretty sure this one started off tube like, then cut it open, now rests on the couch

It looks like a coyote to me. Just a melanistic variant. No different than an albino other than the colour.

Clueless comment. You can still get a full mount or rug with a cased skinning job.You can't go back to cased once you slit the belly.

At my sons request, I placed it between the two others in his room.... I got to say, the pictures dont do it justice....It is much nicer in person. With that said, I most likely sand/work the hide (leather portion) a bit more when we get a little nicer weather. It is soft but with a little more work, I can make it really soft
