Redding suggests that their carbide buttons for bottleneck cartridges (.308) eliminates the need to lube the inside of the necks during (neck size) resizing?
Any experience with these dies? Comments

I have a couple of my RCBS dies set up with the Hornady carbide expander buttons. They do work well but I still brush the inside of the necks clean with a dry nylon brush before sizing.

I have read that with the carbide expander you should inside lube every tenth case to prevent wear .Personally I loaded hundreds of rounds before I even took the die apart to clean it and never lubed the expander, never had a problem.

Reduced Neck Stretching?

It is my understanding that the carbide button reduces the amount of neck stretching when sizing. Supposedly you don't have to trim your case necks so frequently and brass should last longer. Has anyone using the carbide buttons noticed that they don't have to trim as often?
Just wondering . . .

I use them on several different cartridges, I would say they reduce neck stretching. They definately go through the neck much smoother. I tumble my cases clean before sizing so I don't run a brush or lube them inside at all before sizing. I do use a very small bit of the redding imperial sizing wax on the outside. I would definately recommend using them.

Thanks for the comments. Think I'll give the carbide a try. I didn't realize that Hornady had a carbide button for their dies. I have always used the Hornady die sets with good results... I shoot almost every day (weather permitting) so am always looking for ways to reduce my reloading time. I have been using wax lubes and seldom have to trim as I neck size only, and do not load too hot.

I don't know if Hornady makes carbide expander stems for their own rifle dies but for some reason they offer a set that fits RCBC dies.

Thanks Boo ....WSS lists the Hornady made carbide expander button set for RCBS dies ... I wonder if it would fit on the Hornady decapping rod?

Once again I could be wrong but,the only hornady dies that they list carbide for are I believe the compewtition grade dies.According to a hornady rep. the rcbs button does not work with there own dies.

Thanks guys, I checked with Hornady and indeed, the carbide buttons they make do not fit their own dies...just the RCBS.
