Carbide dies for rifle. Do they exist?

Carbide dies for bottleneck cases are very expensive due to the difficulty in making the insert. In addition, they still need to have the cases lubricated. The main benefit of these dies is increased wear resistance for extremely high volume use- upwards of 10,000 rounds/year.

"...Dillon sells them..." Yep. .308 dies run $144.95US for the set. $125.95US for the sizer die only.
"...why are there no carbide dies for rifle rounds..." Carbide isn't easy to machine for a bottle necked case.

And, as tjhaile says, you still need to lubricate. I wish I could shoot enough to justify worrying about wearing out my old RCBS dies, but sigh, I have a life.

Polish-Jack .......

If you try Imperial Sizing Die Wax you'll enjoy reloading a lot more. It's a great high pressure lube (far better than other reloading lubricants), and it's not the least bit sticky or nasty to work with. I often hear shooters ask about carbide dies just to avoid using some lousy reloading lubricant. I've recommended Imperial Sizing Die Wax to lots of shooters, and I've only had one shooter that said he found something better.

I can't find the stuff anywhere in Ontario. But then again I'm sitting around moaning, waiting for a PM.

Imperial Sizing Die Wax has been used by reloaders for decades. Redding liked the stuff so much, they bought the product rights to sell it under their name. You can now find it at MidwayUSA or almost any reloading supplier.

Unfortunately, Midway USA will not export ANYTHING.

What was the product that he found better? Just curious.

Also, I use a couple of squirts of a spray lube on a bucket of straight wall pistol cases, it makes sizing much smoother through carbide dies.

The only guy that found a "better" lubricant was a chemical engineeer, and you wouldn't want to try what he recommended. He used a nasty anti-seize product that would take at least 10 minutes to get if off your hands.

Try Imperial Sizing Die Wax .... you'll like it. You'll enjoy reloading a lot more.

I ship to Canada twice a week. What's the deal with MidwayUSA?

Thanks, we have all kinds of anti seize, and some of them are a real b***h to get off our hands. I will stick with sizing wax or other products.

Midway USA you ask, a few years ago they got dinged $330k (plus their legal costs) for shipping 250 scopes out of the US without proper permits. After that they stopped all exports.

Apparently now when the US State Dept (responsible for ITAR exports) does inspections of company records, they look at the "Bill To" information, even if shipping is within the US. If it a foreign address, then they assume the goods will make their way out of the country. So now many companies won't even process an order unless the credit card is also a US address.

I guess we all need to be very careful about our own government. The lessons from WW2 were learned, but quickly forgotten. I'll check into it, and make sure I'm not violating some ridiculous bureaucratic law.

The biggest problem here is finding 2 different bureaucrats that interprete their own rules the same way.

Kiwi neutral shoe polish will also work nicely. Just smear a small amount on the bottom 1/2 to 2/3 of the case body and you will be hard pressed to get a case stuck.

I just purchased a carbide button upgrade kit for my redding neck size die, full floating, works like a charm, no lubrication at all, note this is just a neck sizer. Purchased through MysticPrecision, was around 35.00 I think...
