Ok Mauser guys , dont beat me too bad. I purchased this old boat paddle several years ago at a gun show for my wife . My wife got a new Browning because hers wasnt as shiny as mine (Really) . So I am wondering Is this rifle a Spanish Mauser 96 in 6.5x55 as the nice man at the gunshow said. I had a Swede in 6.5x55 and they are similar. I have no Idea how long the barrel was to start but it is very well ballanced as a carbine . Any info would be appreciated . And no I have never fired it as the caliber is not stamped on it , I was going to cast the chamber and may at some point but I'm pretty sure its 6.5x55. Thanks much.

The Spanish mausers were 93's, in 7mm, later shortened to a "short rifle" in 1916 (the m1916), then a bunch were rebarreled in the 50s to 7.62x51. They go for about $350 in either configuration. AFAIK they never used a 96 or 98, and went straight from the modelo 1916 to the fr-7

The Spanish Model 43 Air Force and Army rifles were a 98 action.

This appears to be a 95 action. The 1916 rifle used the 95 action IIRC.

I'll take two shots for every reply AdrianM , I think its going to be a hoot ta shoot.

If the bore is good in that rifle, shoot 140 to 175 grain bullets. It will be very accurate as long as you can hold it well.

Carbines have a tendency to dance around a bit from the standing position. Their weight/balance take a bit of getting used to.

Not to beat a dead horse but have you folks ever heard of a Spanish Calvary Carbine , I measured the barrel the other day cause a little bird told me it It may be a little to short but I have found some information stating that these Calvary carbines have 16 inch barrels , This thing looks to be factory in every way . Have any of you come across this particular version before . It looks like it measuresover 17 inches to the end of the threads .

I had a horribly bubbaed one one of those so I had a gunsmith install a new Tradex 6.5x55 barrel on it.
