so is there any way to adjust either the spring tension of the pin that goes in the holes or what is the fix so the stock does not collapse while I am shooting.

stock is older 4 position...

There is a little nut that holds the pin in place that locks the slide up. On some models it is not held in place with a roll pin. If there is no roll pin, it may have been tightened up and thus preventing your stock from locking positively into place.

Do you know the history of the stock? Has it been pieced together from a couple of different ones? Is it the original buffer tube? The roll pin isn't usually all that hard to take out. Taking it out, unscrewing the nut a half turn or so and then replacing the roll pin might snug things up a bit.

ok so I removed the roll pin and the screw head on top of the knob the roll pin was on I turned it in 2 turns..... looks like probably it was not in enough.... turned it in till the roll pin was hard to get back into the knob.

thank god for my set of proto roll pin punches :)

won;t know if that worked till my next range session.... but seems to be a lot more sturdy...

I have some new furniture coming anyway... this will be my back up set, going yellow with cav arms furniture. :)

clearly a case of operator error:p remember the part where the pointy things come out is supposed to be away from you...the slidey thingy goes against your shoulder...:D

I had the same issue with my cheapy 4 position on my M4gery. Every shot would make it collapse one more.

As you figured out, if you remove the roll pin and 'unscrew' the nut a little, it makes the retainer pin move further into the buffer tube. I had to move mine so much that the roll pin wouldn't even go back in... so I just used a bit of wire and made it work like a roll pin.
