Well I finally found an original folding bayonet for my M38 short Carcano. At $300 CAD I thought it was a pretty decent deal for its condition. Looks great on the rifle too. Just thought I’d share.

They can be found somewhat regularly, but the usual price for one that’s not in relic condition is $400+ USD. That’s a lot to pay for display piece. Even this one was more than I paid for the rifle it’s self.
 
I always found this folding bayonet design somewhat dumb for the Italians. If they were that insistent on a folding bayonet, why not just duplicate the nice and effective one on their Cavalry Carbines? This is a weaker design, more complicated to make, and doesn't really add any actual benefit I can see.

Mind you they were always about doing weird things with bayonets, their early TS bayonet being a excellent example.
