Carcano stocks

I'm wondering if anyone knows what type of wood is used for Carcano stocks.

Beech for the WWll models that I've seen. Although some of the 8mm models built by Steyr, had walnut. bearhunter

Walnut is also found on many WW1 era rifles. I've got an M1891/41with walnut stock.

I have some that are beech and one that may be German made in walnut. They often have a factory crest stamped at butt in Italian.

The reason I ask is because I have 2 Carcanos, a Model 1891/28 T.S. Carbine and a Model 1891/41. The 91/41 Is missing it's little cap of wood on top and I was going to make one myself if I knew the type of wood the stock was made out of. Hard to tell, dark dark stain.

And the odd bit is the Martini Henry is stocked in Italian cypress.
