Just read a thread in a foreign forum regarding defective .223 Wolf FMJ (grey laquered shell). Defective are the primer (sqashed in production or smth like that, or seated too deep), neck (generates cracks or separates from the shell body) and sometimes bullets (appear to be seated not enough deep, which results in original crimp sitting above the neck and additional crimp created during seating).
Results of all that can be anything from misfires to kaboom after separated neck lodges in the barrel.
Inspect your Wolf ammo before you load. It's a good idea to measure OAL too and sort the rounds into several groups, as the tolerance of Russian manufacturer are, ehem, questionable. I measured 7.62x39 Wolf a few months ago and found large deviation inside one lot. Weight will differ too, but sorting by weight is pointless, as we do not know what the difference is composed of.

I have just recently, due to increased experimentation with handloading, added case inspection to my shooting routine. This step can be easily overlooked.

Another thing that I do is measure and note all factory ammo for OAL for future reference.

Good reminder.

FActory ammo will have deviation to it. This is why we hand load.. it is a far better method of ensuring uniformity.
But as you mentioned "checking weight" it may not be as pointless as you think depending on the variance in the weights. even when you buy bullets for reloading, we weigh our cases and bullets to ensure the same weights are being put together. Some bullets may weight 180gr while a half dozen weigh in at 178gr...

Wolf is made in Russia, and considering our import rules, individual does not need an approval for importation of up to 5000 rounds. The USA is not the only country in the world, where Tula exports its Wolf ammunition. It is confusing, but Wolf USA sells other makers' ammo under its name, while Wolf factory in Russia is just a shop in Tula ammo plant, rented by the company called Wolf (maybe that's just a subdivision of Tula plant, I am not sure).

have run 2k rounds of russian wolffee thru my ar15's without fail..... it is good ammo for the price, and frankly is as accurate in my AR15T as federal 62gr FMJ.

the wolffee I have is the 62gr FMJ, steel case

I seem to remember seeing Wolf ammo for sale on some site a while back from some place out of Kingston, Ont.

Two different companys.

Wolf in Kingston is a licenced reloader (wolfbullets.com)

I think the Wolf in question is a Russian Import into the US and not on the approved ammo list in Canada
