James (my 8 yr old) and I want to go to the NWT, preferably the Yellowknife area, to hunt one caribou. Of course, I could book with just about anyone and go myself, but I need someone who would accept James along. That's the catch. If he doesn't go, neither do I.

I am no longer familiar with the rules and regs etc in the NWT, and I wanted to pick the brains of you gunnutz to see if you know of a way James and I could go. A five day hunt would be just right.

If you have a contact or want to share some personal experience James and I will read every post. We are looking to go this year, however if we have to wait until next year due to bookings etc, so be it.

Thanks
James and Randy

Becarefull who you pick, the outfitter I was with last year probably would have allowed a 8 yr old in Camp. But it most definatly wasent a place to take your son. Let me look for a link to the Camp I would go with. Great idea BTW.

Unless you can find a camp that will give you some sort of private spike camp or something your 8 year old is going to learn a pile of new words and phrases on a trip like that.:D   :D

I know when ever I have spent time around a hunt camps/lodges I have noticed most guys really increase the curse words per sentance ratio when they get away from the wife and kids for a week or two.

I hear ya....One of the many, many concerns I have but in all honesty, he's told me about the mouths on some of the kids in Grade 2.....he has been to moose camps and bear hunts etc and got treated adequately but I definitely hear what you're saying. And I don't expect other guys to change their ways just because the young fella is there....most guys have been pretty good tho.

A spike camp with a guide/resident would be ideal.

GTH. It's almost like a new language. In fact when I came home from my 2.5 week long hunt this year I found myself with just a awfull mouth..

Huntin stuff. After dealing with all the emotions that go along with a busted hunt, I found these guys.

To be honest I know nothing about them, but after looking at the website and comparing it to what we delt with last year, I came to the decision that if I was to ever book another Bou hunt I would take a better look at these guys.
If you want some inside info on what I found "wrong' with our camp, please feel free to PM me and we can talk.

Thanks
Jamie

good luck getting a tag, they just dropped the outfitters tags from something like 1000 to 300. people book years in advance and there is apparantly a caribou drought. i live in the nwt and they dropped our tags from 5 to 2. good luck

Email me at arctic.safaris at NT.sympatico.ca We could do it but would have to talk about maturity, etc., as there are lots of griz in the area. He wouldn't be the first junior, and the guides enjoy the kids if they're responsible.
