I'm a total noob when it comes to Mauser actions, hence this question: I just picked up a custom Carl Gustafs rifle marked Gevar%$**I under the front base, and below that '1905'.
Can anyone tell me which Mauser or other action this is from this meager description? If I absolutely have to I can remove the base, but the previous owner either used locktite or :mad:Devcon:mad: on the screws. There are no other markings on the action except the ser. number on the left side of the receiver.
The barrel is aftermarket in 6.5x55, and of course there are no markings on it. ***The sometimes useless FRT disc tells me that action was only made for 222 Remington, which doesn't make sense...to this noob anyway.:)

Without photos it is a wild guess, but that sounds like a sportered Swedish Model 1896 Mauser made in 1905.

Hope this works guys. Curses! These are probably too small to tell you anything. I'll try again.

Do the pictures confirm that this is an 1896 Mauser action? Or is more detail/different angle(s)/whatever needed?
I need to know in case I want to scrounge for aftermarket parts like a #### on open kit, trigger, safety mod.
Thanks,
Rob

Seeing how in 1905 CG was only producing M94/96 actions it's pretty well sure that's what your's is. The M96 serial numbers for 1905 run from 151,000 into the mid 170,000 range,or so. If it's a M94 receiver it will have a 5 digit serial number. I see from your pics that the bolt shroud is from a Husqvarna M38.

the third picture is a bolt from a 98 action?

the action is a typical 96 or 94 swede
seeing as it is a original bent bolt I'd have to say a 94 action

The serial number on this action puts it right smack in the middle...160###.
It sounds like that cinches it as an M96.
According to CFC the original rifle was only made for one calibre, 222 Rem., and was sold as a 'varmint/target rifle.
Thanks a million to all.:D
