Loke the title says. I picked up a book yesterday at a used book store it's Silent Warrior by Charles Henderson. Its a follow up to the original book Marine Sniper: 93 Confirmed Kills
I never expected to find it in a little store like that.

My question to those that respect his name what do you think of the book?

It's good, covers things that were cut from the origional edit for the first book. Worth while to pick up.

I really liked Marine Sniper, but was a bit disapointed with Silent Warrior. It was a bit too repetitive of stories from Marine Sniper, but it also did fill in some of the blanks.

i read it a while ago, i got the impression that it was a "novelized" account of Hathcocks life that Henderson wrote to capitalize on the growing interest in snipers an Viet Nam...

I've read that one and the sequel..

Great books and an awesome story, what a life that guy lived.. too bad it had to end the way it did. He is one of the key figures of military history IMO when it comes to force on force action on an infrantry level.

There is another book about Hathcock that is fantastic, "Whitefeather" written my Rocky Chandler. Both Rocky and Norm Chandler were very good friends with Carlos, and the info in that book is even better then the other ones, and a lot of fantastic pictures. The man is a true legend, and the love and respect for this him by all of those that new him and have written about is is out of this world.

Carlos Hathcock

I started reading Silent Warrior and am about 1/3 of the way and I don't find it as good as Marine Sniper.

I have read the following books:
Sniper, & Stalk and Kill, by Adrian Gilbert.
Stalkers & Shooters, by Kevin Dockney
One Shot One Kill (is somewhere in my library)
Ultimate Sniper
Complete Book of US Sniping
Illustrated Manual of Sniper Skills by Mark Spicer
Sniper Counter Sniper by Mark V. Lansdale

These are just a few in my library, you can pick out the serious parts and the embellished sections. I have one manual that was published during WWI that makes one really think just how deadly sniping really is. Illustrated Manual of Sniper Skills was interesting as it opens up the real world of having snipers in the military.
The movies show sniper against sniper, but in reality the sniper is an observer, can disable a piece of equipment, or provide support for a force. The difference between military and law enforcement snipers are completely different.
If you read after action reports of units in Vietnam the primary targets for a NVA or VC snipers in an engagement were, radio, machine gunners, and officers.
Watching the movie “We Were Soldiers” that was illustrated when the radioman in the cut off platoon got hit first, then the next guy to pick up the radio, and the officer got it next.
Reading about snipers and sniping makes one think about the type of man that has to do the job. They certainly get my deepest respect for the job they have to do.
