I know I've found this before but, now my google fu is failing me. There is a bulletin or regulation often quoted that states that an antique handgun may be carried and discharged anywhere that a non restricted can be. I wish it was a sticky. can anybody steer me to it?

shooting and carrying an antique are two different things....

Guessing here, but Morpheus 'could be' politely indicating that caution is prudent. Antiques are cool and it's a small loophole, please don't contribute to it getting closed by posting youtube videos of you out in the wilds busting caps.
Please., just don't make this an issue by insisting that a CFO answer your questions concerning it. Relax and do some studying on your own, or read some older posting concerning it.

You will not find a rule, regulation, etc., specifically permitting this.
An antique firearm may be discharged anywhere a firearm may be legally discharged.
There are regulations prescribing how an antique handgun may be transported.
Use common sense about where you take and use the antique.
Refer to provincial hunting regulations.

Yes, I think we all agree for "shooting" the firearm, it can be where ever it is legal to discharge. I again comment, there is a difference between that question that has been answered and carrying an antique firearm. Carry is a different word under the law than discharge. So if the question is, how can I legally carry my antique firearm, this is different than discharge. As TOKGUY notes, prudent caution is advised.

We've beaten this into the ground before. We're still waiting for the first test case where someone is charged (a) with lawfully discharging his "antique" revolver in the boonies and (b) wearing a concealed weapon.
Guys have reported having conversation with people re: their guns in the bush, but not with a LEO. Yet ......

"Going armed" with a loaded antique handgun is something that has yet to appear in the courts as far as I know. This is why I suggested using common sense about where a person takes and uses an antique.
There is a world of difference between wearing one under a hoodie in downtown TO, and carrying one while in the bush. And transporting it according to the regulations while en route to the bush.
There was a member here who contacted the ON MNR and was told that it was legal to hunt with an antique pistol in ON. (ON hunting regulations prohibit hunting with a restricted or prohibited firearm - an antique is neither).
The first time someone does something stupid with an antique handgun, and attracts publicity, the situation is going to be clarified - and I don't think that the folks who laid out long green for a reworked antique that has had its collector value destroyed are going to be very happy.

Sorry guys, my question was poorly worded. My intent was to find a regulation that states that an antique handgun may be carried and discharged anywhere it is legal to carry and discharge a non-restricted firearm. Not in the least interested in exploring the possibilities of using existing laws to carry openly or concealed. Take the word "carry" out of the question. Looking for a quasi official statement that says antique handguns may be legally discharged anywhere that a N R can be fired.

by and large regulations say what you cannot do except for those which say you must do which, when you think about it, amounts to the same thing. You must store the gun in a locked room ie you cannot store the gun laying on the counter in the kitchen

cheers mooncoon

You will find no such regulation.

Treat it like a non-restricted long gun less transport regs.

Regardless of antique or a standard 870 shotgun...

In public with it in plain view and someone sees you = possibly get arrested. Released with no charges following tactical takedown

Get searched no matter where you are and they find it concealed on your person = get arrested probably go to jail

Walking in the bush and someone sees it = possibly get arrested (much less likely with a shotgun mind you) . Released with no charges following tactical takedown
