Carrying gun on bicycle.

I was cycling around in Region 7 up west of Quesnel one time looking for either a mulie buck of moose calf. I think my game spotted count was one coyote and 7 does and fawns by 10:00 a.m.

Along comes a big red Ford diesel F250 with two guys in it. They roll down the window and start talking.

"Boy, it sure ain't like it used to be around here," they said through a cloud of cigarette smoke. "You just don't see any game any more." Then they went on to name all the usual suspects, Lower Mainlanders, Vancouver Islanders, certain races, wolves, etc.

"Yeah well, good luck then," I said after a bit more chit chat, and cycled off.

There use to be a General Electric Tech Rep up in Cold Lake that did all his Deer hunting on a bike. After a kill and gutting, he would truss the animal on the bike and wheel it back to his truck. Efficient, quiet, neat tool! The guy was pretty interesting.....Vietnam vet, door gunner, two tours I recall.
When I head deep into the bush, I normally throw my mountain bike in the back of the truck for emergency transport back out....

I've tried it to get farther in to some areas that don't see as much pressure. First time I carried it on a sling, unloaded (SxS shotty). My reading of the laws in Nova Scotia were that it was NOT considered a vehicle as defined under the wildlife act, so it did not have to be "encased" while riding, and no trigger lock. In any case, I found the gun too uncomfortable to carry on the sling, so teh next time I broke it down into my backpack and then got off, changed boots and hunted on foot (grouse, but I had deer tag and a couple of slugs too). It was fun and good exercise and I got into some areas I'd never get to on foot. I don't remember seeing any game, but I'd do it again for sure. As far as riding with any in the mag, I didn't think about that because it would have been in the chamber for me with the hinged shotty, which was obviously out of the question.

100% legal in Quebec, same as walking with gun...

Funny that you would ask that, since we were specifically told during my hunter safety course that in Quebec you can carry an unholstered, loaded rifle while hunter in non-motorized vehicle with the example being a guy riding his mountain bike with a 300 Win Mag slung on his back!

It's 100% legal here and it really made my day (I love hunting and cycling)

A loaded gun can be had in a canoe, I see no reason to not be able to have a loaded gun on a bike.
Both modes of transport have no motor... so youre good to go. Im doubtfull Id have a round in the chamber though when on a bike, just incase I go for a dump and the gun goes off.

Simple answer - in Ontario you cannot have a loaded firearm on a bicycle - they are included as a conveyance:

Loaded firearms in hunting areas

17. (1) A person who is in an area usually inhabited by wildlife or who is on the way to or from an area usually inhabited by wildlife shall not,

(a) have a loaded firearm in or on a conveyance or discharge a firearm from a conveyance, except if,

(i) the conveyance is a boat that is not a motorboat, or

(ii) the conveyance is a motorboat and the person is hunting migratory birds in accordance with the regulations under the Migratory Birds Convention Act, 1994 (Canada);

I've hit 65km/h in my truck following a moose that was fair chase I was only in 3rd gear. But a bike that's not fair no way in hell you'd ever catch him especially down a logging road. I'd sure love to see the guy bike out with half a moose tied to the handle bars. I thought of taking a bike bear hunting for the noise but I only have a bmx and the roads up there are not for one geared bikes with 20"rims so ill resort to leaving my truck parked a mile or so down the road

I beleive you can have a loaded gun on a bicycle at least in Ontario as long as it isn't motorized this includes Electric motors as well.

A couple points from the Ontario 2011-2012 hunting regs:

page 24
"It is illegal to have a loaded firearm in or on, or discharge a firearm from, an aircraft, vehicle...."

page 21
"A firearm is considered to be loaded if it has a cartridge in the chamber or in a magazine that is attached to the firearm."

page 87
"VEHICLE: Any kind of vehicle that is driven, propelled or drawn on land or ice by any kind of power, including muscular power, and includes the rolling stock of a railway."

This is unfortunate.... I think using a bike would be a great way to hunt...

Use a rifle with a detachable box magazine. It's not like you're going to do a no-hander and fire on the fly...are you?R:d::D

Okay in AB, done it many times, I use a Boonie Packer sling to carry my rifle up front where it's handy. In the early season you'll be surprised how close you can get to game on a bike as it is an unfamiliar sound and sight.
