Help please! I'm new to the world of shooting but loving every minute. Main question/ questions. Looking for a long range precision rig out to 1000m. Love the savage 12 lrp but can't decide on 6.5 creedmoor or .260. I can't shoot anything bigger than a .275 at my place. Any and all advice would be helpful. Also would love to have a longer barrel life than 4000 rounds if I'm spending roughly $2000. Should I just go for a cheap .243 starting out. Kind of lost on this one.

I had a Savage 12LRP in 260 and loved it! Shot it out to 900 yards on several occasions and it performed very well (for a factory rifle). I replaced it with a custom but stayed with 260. Very little difference between the 260 and the Creedmoor. For many, it comes down to availability of reloading components.

Thanks viper. Williams arms is my local shop and they said its gonna be awhile until they see a savage 12 lrp. Any advice on another gun like the Remington 700 or even a custom if I can keep it under $2000. Thanks again

With that budget, why not build what you want and get everything desired?

Send me a PM or email and we can get you set up.

Remember that with accuracy, bore life is much shorter then the internet suggests. There are NO options that will survive 4000rds with accurate LR fire. I am assuming you are trying to hit targets around the MOA range at 1000m vs minute of mountain?

The 6.5's you are enquiring about are wonderful LR options and can be very accurate BUT if they made it to 2000rds of accurate fire, that would be very good life.

Jerry

About the closest you will get is in a 308 run at lower pressures.

Jerry is right. With careful component selection, a custom build doesn't need to break the bank. My thought was to learn with the factory gun and then upgrade the barrel once it was shot-out. After a season with the LRP I sold it and got the Chou Brothers to build me a new one. That progression worked for me. If you want to get your feet wet with the LRP give Epps a call. I think they have one in stock.
