John, from what I've been reading, and hearing from the Americans is that H4350 is their choice for the 6.5x284. Yeah, there's lotsa airspace in the case, but it shoots. The downside is barrel life. The interviews I read, they won't go into a major competition with 700 rounds on a barrel. Some claim not to have deep pockets, but screwing on a new barrel every few months to stay competitive (and attending matches across N.A.) requires good cash flow.
Given the barrel erosion rate with H4831 and my Gaillard barrel, I have nothing but confidence. At the Palma competition in Borden this barrel had 900+ rounds thru it and held 1/2 moa vertical at 1000 yards. John Brewer mentions in an interview that when he has to clean more often to retain good accuracy, it is an indication of the barrel accuracy going south. Sounds good to me. I cleaned 150 rounds ago, because I felt guilty.
I'm not saying my rig is superior to their's. They are using a tried and true formula that works for them. It also doesn't hurt when they can read atmospheric conditons better than nearly everyone. They are a team, and have put their collective experiences together to use what works for them. We're still a bunch of individuals experimenting on our own.

The Palma shoot at Borden also has F class shooters competing alongside. I'm using H4831 powder in 6.5x284. Shooting at 800, 900, and 1000 yards rocks!
