This is absolutely "key" for an "actual" hunter... and where the Internet banter can impair a hunter's ability to perform effectively in the real world... all the online "talk" of sub-moa rifles, have many frustrated hunters spending exhorbinant amounts of time at shooting benches and little to no time from field positions... as a result their self belief is wildly inflated and their field expectations are unrealistically optimistic... guess who pays for their ultimate failure...

Dead on hoytcanon !!! Couldn't have said it better myself.

Very true, however........ I classify much of what I have in the safe as 'decent quality' hunting rifles. In working up loads, off of sand bags, what I set as an objective is 1";)or less at 100yds. With a couple, admittedly, I've had to do a bit of work on, but, they do meet or have met that self imposed criteria. One of the reasons for 'wanting' that load capability, is, if I miss in the field, I know I can't blame either the rifle or the ammo. I've eliminated the variables, it's me. That being said, while I try and find/use a rest when possible in the field, I do try and practice off hand shooting as well. At the range, I 'try' and end up shooting as many shots off hand as I do from my 'bean bag' testing rest. Besides;), with retirement comes the time to play that way and I do enjoy reloading and load testing.

Good thread though, it's making people realize that accuracy isn't everything, although it's important. It's one of the reasons I don't like savages, I hate dinking around trying to insert a magazine, then struggling to make it chamber a round properly.

Drop floor on this one...still a savage though. :p
