Carying slugs when hunting grouse

From AB Regulations page:

Illegal to:

3. hunt a migratory game bird using
•a firearm loaded with a single bullet
•shot, other than non-toxic shot,
•a cross-bow
•a shotgun that is of a larger size than 10 guage.


4. hunt any game bird using
•a shotgun in which the magazine and chamber combined will hold more than three rounds of ammunition,
•a trap, or
•bait.

Clear as mud or is the single bullet prohibition for MGB only?

I would have a field day in court defending carrying any types of shotgun ammo I wanted. Unless they actually catch you poaching an out-of-season animal, how can they prove that you're not just holding slugs to zero in your sights? Is there a law against shooting a squirrel, crow, or rabbit with a slug?

On the internet, all bear encounters happen at blinding speed from 10 feet away.

Funny how court appearances are much the same.

Perfectly legal in BC. It's legal to shoot grouse with a single projectile too. So none of this nonsense from some provinces. I suspect it's legal in AB too, but reading your regs to determine if grouse can only be shot with shot is the first step.

The Eastern Provinces have some incredibly stupid regs, and treat all guys with guns like poachers until they can prove otherwise.

I have no recollection of any regs that would stop you from keeping a few slugs in yer pocket, or buckshot... But if you have enough internet to ask here, you have enough internet to download a copy off the Alberta RELM site...

Actually it is quite clearly written, single bullet for migratory only.

Yup if I saw that while grouse hunting I would want more than just slugs for sure!!!
